- Tip #1: In all seriousness, my biggest tip is to meal plan every meal and cook some meals that may repurpose another. As an example: chili and cornbread one night, then leftover chili the next time for chili corndogs, and so on. We have almost zero food waste because I do this all the time. – Hip Sidekick, Sara
- Tip #2: I have been playing around with chatgpt and meal planning. You can give it a prompt with budget and dietary requirements and it will give suggestions and cost estimate. Kinda fun! Here is an example. I would use it as a general guide to build off of. – Hip Sidekick, Lina

Whether you prefer Walmart, Kroger, Albertsons, Meijer, or whatever store you find yourself shopping at the most often, be sure to download their unique app for access to member-only rewards coupons, and more!
Always download the app for whatever store you shop and join their rewards program. For example, I have the Albertsons app and get so many personalized coupons based on what I buy. Just yesterday, I had an offer for a free energy drink, bakery donut, peanut butter and oatmeal.– Hip Sidekick, Bryn

Yes, I would add to always check the marked-down food sections at your local grocery store. I always beeline it to the marked-down beef & pork at my Albertsons and almost always score 50% off steaks, burgers, pork chops, etc. (in fact, I base many of my dinners off whatever meat is marked down that day).– Bryn, Collin’s sister & Hip Sidekick
6. Check with the butcher at your store for free cutting & more!
Some stores will hang up signs for new bulk meat sales that week – including free wrapping & packaging! Plus, being able to choose your cut of meat should help lower the amount of food waste when you get exactly the cut you need to cook!
Hip Sidekick, Liza, takes full advantage of this service! Here’s why she loves it:
My local store runs sales on bulk meat purchases pretty often, and they hang up signs that say they will cut it into whatever size or type you want, plus wrap it, all for free. So if there’s a great sale on pork loin, I might get one and have it broken down into a roast, some pork chops, maybe some cut up for stir fry, etc. Same with a beef tenderloin to get filets, a roast, etc. I could butcher it myself, but having them do it saves me time and they also do the wrapping/packaging. – Liza, Hip Sidekick
