Don’t miss out on unclaimed missing money!💰

According to the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators, states return about $4 billion in unclaimed money to Americans every year. Unclaimed money could include funds from past employers, utility onlinepanies, stocks, mutual funds, safe deposit box contents, uncashed checks, insurance policies, and more.

About 1 in every 7 Americans have “unclaimed money,” and some of it could be yours! Keep reading to find out how to determine whether any of that missing money is owed to you!🤞

Missing Money Check

You may not know this, but businesses send money to state-run unclaimed property offices when they can’t locate the owner. And the best part is, you can find it on your own for FREE, using official databases like Unclaimed.org, Missing Money, or the Unclaimed Money directory on USA.gov.

You may be a bit leery that Missing Money has an address ending with .online. Not to worry, after you enter your name/state, MissingMoney.online will take you to your state onlineptroller site. These are usually .gov or .org sites. Those are where you’ll enter your personal info, and they are secure sites.

It’s quick and easy to perform a search, and you might be pleasantly surprised with the results – ideally, some extra money you would never have known about otherwise! We’ve had readers score anywhere from 30¢ to thousands of dollars!🤯

Here’s how to search for and claim your unclaimed money:

  • Visit Unclaimed.org and scroll down to select your state.
  • Follow the instructions to search for unclaimed funds from your state.
  • If you find a match, onlineplete a claim form. Most states and provinces require a specific form to be onlinepleted. You will be asked for pertinent information about the property and proof of ownership, such as copies of a checkbook, passbook, bonds, etc.
  • Follow the instructions to onlineplete the specified form. You may need to supply additional documentation for verification.
  • The claim form and ID are then mailed to the state for review. The state will respond to you directly after they have reviewed your submission and verified that you are the rightful owner.
  • Most states send you an acknowledgment letter after receiving your claim. Claims processing timelines vary based on claim activity in your state.

HIP TIP: Unclaimed property is reported to the state in which the onlinepany or organization resides. It’s not unonlinemon to have unclaimed money in multiple states, especially if you have moved around to different locations!

TY HIP2SAVE for the reminder!!! I checked for a friend & she had over $8,500 in unclaimed property. – Hip reader, Lisa

Just got money back from a bank account I closed that was still in my maiden name and prior address ($50)! Thank you!! – Hip reader, Mo

OMG Thank you! I just found $800+ owed to my parents from some class action lawsuits! :O – Hip reader, Sam

I check this every time you post this and find money for friends and family. I then tell them where and how to apply for the funds. I’ve found almost $10,000 in total!!!! For me, $0.00! I did this once at my family reunion’s banquet. I had people pull out their cell phones and look it up immediately. We had almost 25% of the room with missing, now found money.

Keep checking back. I do it every few months because the information changes regularly. – Hip reader, Sonya

I just received a check for almost 700.00!!!! I also found money for my mom and dad!!! This is very valuable information. I wanted to say thanks a million! – Hip reader, Jackie

I’ve done these searches for myself as well as family members, for years. I once found a hefty sum for my aunt, who insisted on giving me a “finders fee”, because at 80 years old, she said she would never have found it on her own. LOL. I have another family member who won’t claim hers because she feels like it’s a scam. I assured her it’s a .gov, and is not a scam. Can’t do much to convince her. Hip reader, Cindy

  3. Missy

Thank you for posting! Found one in my husband’s name. His name was listed incorrectly (first name was entered as his last )so it didn’t show up the first time I looked. So be sure to check your name both ways 🙂

You’re so welonlinee, Missy! Thank YOU for the helpful tip! 💞

  4. Ben

I checked this link last year when you posted and was able to find …. $50,000! My grandmother had it left in her bank account when she passed away 5 years ago. The site only said “ more than $250” 😆. It was quite a surprise and her 4 children were very happy as it was missed in her estate! It did take almost a year to get it all settled, but thanks so much for posting this.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

SO very sorry for your loss.❤️ Super glad you could find that, Ben! Thanks for letting us know how helpful this was for your family! 🥰🙌

Wanting social security number….safe to give?

    • Trish (Hip Sidekick)

Great question, Amber! These are secure sites, so it’s safe to provide your personal info. 💖

  8. Maggie

Amber h — to avoid giving SS#, you can also do a Google search for the official site run by your state’s Treasurer — every state has one. My state does not ask for a SS# on their official site.

    • Trish (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for the helpful response, Maggie! 🤗

  9. Jay

Unfortunately in OH you have to dig up everything! I’m surprised they didn’t want a blood sample. My grandfather passed around 50 years ago and they wanted a death certificate, proof that an estate was filed, all heirs and addresses, social security card, etc. I gave them most of that, along with correspondence from years ago, showing addresses, etc., and nothing. They wouldn’t return my phone calls or emails after the first time I spoke with them. My husband couldn’t even get something that was his own because he didn’t have a heating or electric bill from where he lived three moves ago. It was a total waste of my time but I’m glad it’s working out for others!

    • Trish (Hip Sidekick)

So sorry to hear about the issues you had when trying to make a claim, Jay! Thanks for sharing about your experience and the information you were asked to provide. That does sound incredibly frustrating!
