Target Just Updated Their Price Match Policy for the Holidays (Here’s What You Need to Know)
We’re breaking down everything there is to know about changes to Target’s price match guarantee policy!
Target’s price match policy just got an update. Here’s what to know!
One of the best perks of shopping at Target is that the store has a price match policy year-round.
And during the holidays, that policy gets a little more generous! Starting November 7th, if you purchase an item in-store or online and that price goes lower at Target on or before December 24th, 2024, you can request a price match!
To request a price match, you’ll need to provide proof of the current lower price at Guest Services in your local Target store. Or, for Target.online purchases, call Target.online Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869.
What are the details of the current Target price match policy?
Earlier this year, Target made another new change to the policy. Now, price matches are only accepted from Amazon and Walmart. This is a big change from the prior Target policy which allowed price matching from some 29 onlinepetitors.
Customers can also ask for a price match if the item is less on Target.online or through a Target Circle deal (if you’re a Target Circle Member), and can request a price match either during purchase or up to 14 days after purchase.
To request a price match, customers need to provide proof of the lower price at Guest Services inside your local Target or call Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869 if you made your purchase online.
Here’s what qualifies for a price match at Target…
The item has to be onlinepletely identical down to the brand, size, weight, color, quantity, and model number. The lower price has to be currently active and in stock – not a past listing.
Target must also be able to fact-check the price you’re showing and validate the price on Amazon’s or Walmart’s primary website. Also, prepare to provide the digital ad on your mobile device.
You’ll also need to bring your receipt/proof of purchase for the item you wish to have price matched. If you’re hoping to price match a Target Circle deal, expect to show proof of membership to the program (the basic level is FREE to join).
For a full list of criteria, see the full details of the price match policy on Target.online.
And now, for the exclusions to Target’s Price Match policy:
Unfortunately, Target locations in both Hawaii and Alaska do not price match.
Rain checks are not given if the item is out of stock or sold out to match the onlinepetitor’s price. However, they will give you a rain check in-store in the form of a voucher to match the current sale price of whichever specific Target location you’re at, and it’ll be valid, depending on your state, for some time between 30-45 days.
Other price-matching exclusions include:
- Clearance, closeout, liquidation sales, damaged, used, open package, refurbished, pre-owned, or rent / lease to own items, discount on total store or site purchase, deals that require a minimum purchase, non-branded items, or prices that only display on a onlinepetitor website after guests log in
- Pricing due to typographical errors, lightning sales, promo codes, or onlinepetitor coupon offers
- “Marketplace” prices from third-party vendors
- Alcohol from online retailers
- Contract phone services and plans
- Clinic or pharmacy orders
- Pre-order items
- The membership price of Target 360
- Target Circle bonuses
- Registry coupons
- Target Circle deal prices cannot be onlinebined with onlinepetitor pricing
- Any item sold by a Target Plus™ Partner on Target.online or any Target application are not eligible for price match

What about price matching food at Target?
Whether you grocery shop at a Super Target or buy a few snacks at a regular one, you’ll be happy to know that certain grocery items also qualify. Produce must match the item identically, including brand name, size, weight, and quantity in order to be qualified.
Know before you go: Items must be sold using the same measuring unit – either weight or per item. For example, if Target sells 3 bananas for $3, but Walmart sells 3 pounds for $2, this match won’t be accepted. Also, non-Super Targets cannot match per-pound items.
Now that you know the price matching policy, head to Target and get those deals!
