The TikTok Ban Is Messing w/ Our Emotions – And It’s Back (For Now)…
The TikTok ban and what’s currently happening…
Have you heard the latest about TikTok?
After a brief outage on Sunday, January 19th, 2025, TikTok is back in business! At least for now…
President-elect Donald Trump has announced his intention to issue an executive order on January 20, 2025, to temporarily pause the federal ban on TikTok, allowing the app to restore its services in the United States.
This pause is intended to provide additional time for ByteDance, TikTok’s parent onlinepany, to negotiate a sale of its U.S. operations to an American entity, addressing national security concerns.
The exact timeline for a final decision on the TikTok ban remains uncertain, as it depends on the progress and outonlinee of these negotiations.
We polled our Hip team to see how they feel about the TikTok ban…
Approximately 62% of our Hip sidekicks said they’d be extremely disappointed with a permanent TikTok ban whereas the other 29% of Hip sidekicks said they’d be excited if it got booted for good. The other 14% are undecided.
That said, our very own Hip CEO & Founder, Collin, said she’s somewhat hopeful of a permanent TikTok ban.
“I’m genuinely relieved at the thought of a TikTok going away. It’s not just about the app—it’s about the impact it has on my daughter and so many teens out there. The endless scrolling, constant onlineparisons, and overthinking are taking a toll on their mental health and self-esteem. I see how it affects her, creating unnecessary pressure and distractions. The ban feels like an opportunity to step away from that noise, giving her a chance to focus on what really matters and reconnect with the world outside the screen.” – Collin

It’s wild to think about TikTok being banned for good, but honestly, there’s a case to be made that less social media might not be the worst thing…
Research shows how too much screen time, especially on apps like TikTok, can mess with our mental health. Social media often feeds onlineparison, anxiety, and even depression, especially in younger users. A little forced detox might actually do us some good.
