Here’s What Our Team Has Done Behind The Scenes in May! (This One Goes Out to All The Travelers)
Here’s what our Hip2Save team members have been up to when we’re off the clock…
We’re back with more exciting behind-the-scenes at Hip!
We’re continuing our super fun off-the-clock Hip series and giving you all a sneak peek into our lives behind the scenes every month!
Each month, we share Hip deals our team has personally scored, something we’re doing, or something we’re currently reading! And as always, thanks for being here, Hipsters! ❤️
Here’s what our team has been up to in May:
Chelsey took her kiddos to Disney and saved on her trip in multiple different ways.
Disney can get seriously expensive, but that didn’t stop Chelsey from taking her kiddos on an exciting adventure! To save, she said they booked cheap flights through Frontier, only brought one suitcase for the whole family 😱, used credit card points to pay for the hotel, split a rental car with family members that joined them, and cashed in a few rewards programs (Fetch, Ibotta & Disney Movie Insiders) to pay for food and souvenirs at the parks! 👏🏻
She said they also grabbed discounted Disney gift cards from Target (RedCard discount) and Sam’s Club to help pay for tickets. Wow! Impressive!
Hip Tip: Heading to Disney? We shared the very best ways to save on Disney tickets.
I traveled all over California for an epic birthday trip and saved big on my Airbnbs and flights.
My boyfriend and I almost share a birthday and every year we have chosen an experience over gifts. We had the time of our life hiking in Yosemite National Park, exploring the beaches of Malibu, Santa Monica, and Venice, and we even went to a music festival which has been the greatest concert of my life so far. 😍
I used credit card reward points to get our flights FREE and our Airbnbs were onlinepletely covered using cash bonuses I earned leading up to our trip. All I had to do was open new accounts, spend a certain amount, and patiently wait for the bonuses. It was absolutely worth the wait!
Liz also went on vacation for her birthday and got to live like the president thanks to one question she asked.
It’s a month for birthdays here at Hip and Liz shared about her quick trip to Universal! She said they stayed at an on-site hotel to be close to the parks and avoid driving in Orlando traffic. When they checked in she asked if there were any upgraded rooms available and they moved them into the Presidential Suite! 😱 She said the room was huge and amazing and they had the best weekend ever!
Needless to say, the next time you stay at a hotel, always ask about upgrades. 😉
Alli had an unforgettable trip to Charleston and Airbnb actually gave her money towards her booking.
Alli said her original Airbnb got canceled by the host about 2 weeks before her and her friend’s trip. When this happens, you can let Airbnb help you rebook another place and she said she highly reonlinemends it if you’re ever in this kind of situation.
She said they gave her a coupon code to save on her rebooking, but she actually asked for more since it wasn’t very significant. All in all, they ended up giving her around $160 to go towards her rebooking which was really great!
Alli and her dear college friend who traveled with her enjoyed doing all of the touristy things in town. This included the Pineapple Fountain and Rainbow Row (plus eating all of the delicious food!).
Her favorite part, aside from indulging in delicious food, of all was going to Cypress Gardens. This is where they filmed the swan scene from The Notebook) and she said it was BEAUTIFUL! Even better, it only cost $10 to gain access to the grounds and to canoe around the swamp. Sold!
Here’s some deals our team scored this month:
Amber saved on her daughter’s prom.
You’re likely in the thick of prom expenses if you have a teen in high school, but not Amber! She said they scored her daughter’s gorgeous dress from a local consignment shop which was over half off the original retail. To save even more, she did her hair and makeup and her nails were press-ons from Glamnetics!

Erica bought a shower liner for less than $2 to do a fun activity with her kiddos outside.
Erica grabbed an inexpensive shower liner at Dollar Tree and while it’s not necessarily a deal it was worth every penny for the entertainment it provided. She draped this liner over her fence and her kiddos and friends went to town with paint! What a great idea! 👏🏻 Plus, it’s something she can spray off and use over and over again all summer long.
Here’s a few books our team read this month:
Bryn read a book she typically wouldn’t read after our Hip sidekick, Alli, reonlinemended it last month.
The Four Winds – $14
- Or listen to it FREE with your Audible Membership!
Alli previously shared how she couldn’t stop thinking about this book which was all the convincing Bryn needed to give it a try. Bryn said she’s not typically a huge fan of historical fiction but this book sucked her right in and said it was so easy to fall in love with the characters. She even stayed up way too late one night to finish it up, but said she didn’t want it to ever end!
Alli said this new read that’s #9 on the Amazon charts this week wasn’t what she expected at all.
The Last Thing He Told Me – $12.70
- Or listen to it FREE with your Audible Membership!
This bell-seller book is about a woman who thinks she’s found the love of her life until he disappears. Despite this book not being what Alli expected, she said it was sort of refreshing! While she did feel the ending could have been a little better, the middle of the book was so good that she definitely still reonlinemends reading it!
Alli read another unexpected, but totally sweet read that had her hooked from chapter one.
The Secret Life of Violet Grant – $12.25
- Or listen to it FREE with your Audible Membership!
Alli loved this book so much and said she was literally hooked from the first chapter. The Secret Life of Violet Grant is told from two different perspectives; a fun, carefree 60s girl and a serious scientist in the 1910s. The two characters couldn’t be more different, yet Alli said it felt so natural to jump back and forth between the two! Such a sweet, unexpected read.
Well, Hip2Savers, on that note, we’re going to get back to bringing you all the best deals.
We’ll bring back more exciting news to kick off summer! 😱☀️
