What’s better than discovering an unexpected treasure in your new home? Upcycling your found object by giving it a clever new purpose in your daily life!

That’s just what reader Amanda did when her family stumbled upon a vintage trunk that was left behind by their home’s previous owner.

Here’s Amanda’s story…

trunk on living room floor

Two years ago our family of five moved into a 1940’s home and found this amazing trunk in the attic. I knew I wanted to use it as a display piece in our home, but also knew that it had to be functional. I was able to fit a plastic file box perfectly inside it. It now holds all of our homeschool supplies for the entire year!

This is our second year using, what our children affectionally call, our homeschool treasure chest. The first year it took a little time to organize and make all of the folders. But this year, it took very little time at all. So I’m hoping that the years to onlinee will be just the same.

Here’s a little more about how we organized the file box…

holding a file folder used for school work

The file box includes 36 labeled file folders for each week of the school year. Inside each hanging file is a folder for each child that includes all of the school work they will need to onlineplete for that week.

This gave us such a smooth and seamless school year last year, and we are all looking forward to starting school this year. It took the stress off my shoulders from week to week and the kids knew exactly what to expect.

I love that when people onlinee over and ask where we store our school things, I get to open up this beautiful treasure chest and show them!

And we love that such a cool vintage find gets to have a second life! This beautiful old trunk is now serving a brand new family in a way that perfectly suits their needs. Well done, Amanda! 👏👏👏
