This Reader Created Classroom Birthday Party Favors with a Small Budget
Here’s a fun classroom DIY gift!
Kids love celebrating their classmates’ birthdays! It’s such a sweet sight, and even better when all kids are included! To make each child feel extra special, this week’s Happy Friday reader, Kay, put an extra touch on each of her daughter’s party favors.
My daughter, Lilli, had her 6th birthday this week. We prepared birthday treats for her kindergarten classmates. I wanted to do something frugal but also very cute and memorable.
I put together 22 favor boxes filled with tiny toys, candy, and mini erasers topped with miniature bows. This would make them feel as if they’re actually receiving gifts instead of just favor bags.
Over the years, I’ve been collecting miniature toys from my 3 young children, from fast food kids meals, birthday/holiday favors, Kinder eggs, class prizes, clearance deals, etc.
I always have a stash of candy on hand, such as Starbursts, Tootsie Rolls, and Lifesavers. The mini erasers from Target Bullseye Playground (a pack of 60 erasers for $1). These favor boxes are from Oriental Trading onlinepany.
I got 12 of the hexagon ones for $1.97. And lastly, as for the cute Hallmark mini bows, I bought a ton of them at Walgreens for 90% off after Christmas, a pack of 9 for only $0.09!!!
It was very fun and inexpensive to treat Lilli’s classmates for her birthday. They especially loved the bows. I used red bows for the girly toys and green bows for the boyish toys to help Lilli with the passing out.
I had mostly green and red bows; I did not mean to use Christmas colors, but it came out that way. The only regret she has is wishing she had enough for all the other kindergartners outside her class!
Thanks for sharing this awesome idea, Kay! I love how you put the favors in a gift box instead of goodie bags. It is true that kids love presents, so they must have been thrilled to receive these while celebrating Lilli’s big day!
