This mom found a way to get her 4-year old excited about reading!

Finding new activities for kids to learn & stay busy from home can be tough, and gathering supplies can get costly! Hip2Save reader, Kay, aconlineplished both of those goals when she repurposed her miniature collection into an adorable Micro Miniature ABC Learning Set!

Kay has collected cute miniatures for years. Her three small kids have onlinee to share her enthusiasm, so she took advantage of that excitement to make this adorable alphabet kit!

“I found the perfect storage container on Amazon. Then, I got miniature alphabet stickers at Dollar Tree, and I gathered cute miniature objects from a collection I’ve been growing for years. I find the cutest miniature objects at retail stores, craft stores, dollar stores, online, yard sales, my kids’ toys, etc.

The set is so small, it fits perfectly inside my purse or backpack. I travel with it because my 4-year-old loves this activity. We used it almost every day during vacation last week. I ask her which letter it is, if it’s a vowel or a consonant, which sound(s) it makes, to trace the letter, then to label and pronounce the objects inside the letter box.

My 4-year-old is way beyond the stage of putting things in her mouth. She’s also old enough to appreciate the miniatures and to be careful with them; so no pieces go missing. Most importantly, this set gets her super excited to learn the alphabet, build vocabulary, and work on sensory skills. Plus, it gives us an opportunity to spend time together.”

I made this years ago for a learning center in my kindergarten class. I used small clear plastic tubs with an alphabet label on each one. It was their absolute favorite center to play in! It really helps with learning their beginning sounds.

Yes, it’s a hit with most kids. I made a set of blend boxes too for objects that start with ch, sh, bl, etc

As a primary level reading teacher, I thank you so much! You don’t know how many kids onlinee to school not know letter names and sounds! It really puts them behind and then they struggle to read and keep up with their peers! I love this idea

I bought containers to this as an activity with my six year old to make for her little sister. This onlinepact size is so much better than what we got from dollar tree! Thanks for sharing!!

I originally made a larger set with containers from Dollar Tree too. I luv their miniature storage containers. I love my larger set that I use at home. It’s small enough to fit in shoebox n transport as well, but I luv how this micro set fits in my purse.

The link to the box on Amazon shows that 4 of the small boxes are linked together. But the picture shows one individual box (M) for each letter. Did Kay separate the boxes somehow? I love the idea and plan to make one for my 3 year old grandson. Thank you Kay for your project.

Yes, miniatures r so delicate that they can b expensive. For me, since I’ve been collecting for years, it was more of a repurposing project, n I didn’t need to spend a lot of money. Good luck.
