This Mom Made a DIY Kids Bike Basket Using Items from Dollar Tree
We love repurposing Dollar Tree items!
Making a trip to Dollar Tree is almost like the adult version of a scavenger hunt; you never know what treasures you’re going to find or what project idea will be sparked!
Hip2Save reader, Megan, was looking for a low-cost way to make a bike basket for her son’s bike. A quick trip to Dollar Tree supplied her with all the items she needed, for less than $5!
Check out her solution…
I thought I’d share my thrifty cup holder/bike basket hack from Dollar Tree. I used a storage basket, cable ties to attach, and the velcro cord management straps they sell for open/closing. Next, I cut the handles off the basket and tied a piece of elastic in the middle to balance his sippy cup.
My 2-year-old loves carrying snacks and toys in there, as well as my phone! The best part is I’m no longer carrying 100 tiny things for him. I want to get a blue one for him now that I know it works and put this green one on my own bike.
Because the basket is so flexible it has held up to falls and drops. We get tons of onlinepliments on his little storage basket from parents and other kids who want one too.
On the days when he needs a bit of nudging to ride home, we pretend he is a delivery driver taking his toys to the house. He’s a huge delivery driver fan thanks to all the great Hip2Save deals posted. 🙌
This is such a great idea!
Thank you, Megan, for sharing your creative idea with us! What a fun way to repurpose a few Dollar Tree items into something that will get used daily!
If you have a toddler or kids bike that could use a quick upgrade, consider heading to Dollar Tree this weekend to make your own kids bike baskets.
Consider using these colorful oval baskets like Megan did, and attach them using these cable ties! For an adult bike, these wire oval-shaped baskets would be adorable with a fake flower hot glued to the front!
