3 Clever & Easy Ways to Cut Watermelon
How to cut a watermelon you ask?! We’ve got the answer(s)! 😉🍉
Cutting a watermelon can be a bit challenging, so we’re always looking for ways to get the job done without losing our rind. We’ve rounded up 3 of the best and most clever ways to slice up the delicious summer fruit!
So here’s how to cut a watermelon easily… 3 ways! 🙌
1. A Watermelon Cuber is the gadget we never knew we needed!
This windmill-style slicer we discovered on Amazon is one watermelon-cutting solution we hadn’t seen before, so we were eager to give it a try!
This gadget is great for cutting your watermelon off the rind for skewers, salads, or fruit trays. It’s a really fun and easy alternative to a melon baller! We also love that you can set the cutting mechanism to cut cubes of different sizes up to two centimeters.
To make it work, you’ll need to cut your watermelon into two halves and then cut off the end of one of the halves as shown above.
Then, push the slicing tool (wheel first) through the cut end of your watermelon, moving it all the way through to the rind. As you push, the wheel will turn and cut cubes of watermelon as it goes along. Easy peasy!
Remove your watermelon cubes from the slicing tool, place them in a bowl, and repeat the process until your watermelon has been carved out. This fun gadget even onlinees with a melon baller, which you can use to scoop out any remaining watermelon flesh left behind by the windmill slicer.
We’re not the only fans of this fun gadget! There are over 500 5-star reviews on Amazon. Here’s just one of them:
“If you wanna cut up a melon *real fast* for the family, this is the thing. It turns a tedious job into a very fast process. Best of all, it has no truly sharp edges (plastic + sheet metal) so it’d be reasonably safe for kids to use. I’m very happy with this purchase!”
2. Spear slicing watermelon is perfect when serving a crowd and especially fun for kiddos.
If you don’t have room for another gadget in your kitchen drawer, try this easy method of cutting your watermelon into spears since all you need is a sharp kitchen knife!
Start by slicing the watermelon in half and put one half aside while flipping the other half over onto your cutting board, so that the flat side is down.
Cut through the watermelon rind in a grid pattern, as shown above. We made vertical cuts through the watermelon rind, spun our cutting board by a quarter turn, and then made some more cuts perpendicular to the original slices.
Pull out one of the spears by the rind and you’ll find that you have an easy-to-eat watermelon “stick” that was simple to cut too!
We love this method if you’re cutting a watermelon to serve to a large group. The spears look so pretty when displayed on a tray! It’s also a simple grab-and-go method of putting watermelon out for your kids.
Although eating watermelon off the rind will always be somewhat of a drippy experience, we found this method to be easier and slightly less messy than eating watermelon from a wedge-shaped piece of rind.
3. Use dental floss to cut off the watermelon rind and cube.
If you’d prefer to serve your watermelon without the rind, head to the bathroom, grab some dental floss, and check out this fun hack we found on TikTok! Lina even created a video to visually show you how this is done (and how easy it is!).
Cutting a watermelon using a piece of dental floss is actually a fun and easy hack that really works! To make this happen, you’ll want to first slice a whole watermelon into large sections or wedges using a sharp knife.
Then, wrap a piece of dental floss around your fingers, and use it to slice evenly down the center, and around the bottom by the rind. It’s awesome how easily the floss cuts through the watermelon, and honestly kind of satisfying! 😊
You’ll be able to pull out perfectly sliced pieces without the rind to eat! Yum!
