Get your fall decor up before the leaves fall! 🍂

With the hot hazy days of summer behind us, it’s time to look forward to fall. What better way to start decking out your autumn decor than with some Dollar Tree DIYs? Hip2Save reader Amy shared her easy fall-inspired wreath which cost her only $2 thanks to some fun finds at her local dollar store and FREE natural resources.

acorns drying on baking sheet

Fall is right around the corner and I am getting excited to change up the decor around my house. My favorite part is finding ways to decorate on a dollar or two!

This year, I am trying to find as many natural items to use as decorations. Since we live in an area with lots of oak trees, I decided to find a way to use the abundance of acorns in our yard.

My kids and I went on an acorn hunt and filled a small bucket with acorns. We washed, dried, and baked the acorns at 200ºF for two hours. Baking the acorns gives them a rich, golden brown color and ensures no little critters will live inside them.

Fall metal signs at Dollar Tree

After roasting my acorns, I took a small 12-inch vine wreath from my Dollar Tree and went to work. I hot glued the acorns around the wreath and added a metal sign reading “Harvest” from a 3-pack of signs also found at Dollar Tree. I finished the wreath by adding a bow of fall colored ribbon from my gift wrapping stash.

The wreath cost me $2 to make and was fun for the whole family as we hunted and roasted the acorns together. Enjoy this time of year and just look around outside your home—you might just find some low-cost decorations in your own yard!

I love it, too, and I think the look and size would be perfect to hang one on each window on the front of our house, just like people do with evergreen wreaths at Christmas. My daughter would be THRILLED to get to help me hot glue that many things together! Thanks for the idea! Now to go scavenging for acorns!

Great idea! My girls had a blast helping me!
