1. Invest in a reusable water bottle to save on plastic.

Did you know that bottled water is ranked the #1 U.S. beverage by volume sold? According to EarthDay.org, Americans purchase about 50 billion water bottles per year, averaging about 13 bottles per month for every person in the U.S.! 😳

That means just you alone could save an average of 156 plastic bottles annually! 🙌🏼

Luckily, I rated the best water bottle brands after many years of testing! So if you’re in the market this Earth Day, make sure to check out which one will best suit your needs. I even included the BEST option for kids! 👍

2. Help save the oceans by using our favorite reusable straws along with ditching other plastics.

Scientists estimate that between 50-75 trillion pieces of plastic & microplastics now pollute the world’s oceans. 😫 These plastics gradually break down into microscopic particles that are carried by ocean currents and often collect in massive floating garbage patches. Research has confirmed the widespread presence of microplastics throughout every layer of the ocean—from surface waters to the deep sea. One study even detected microplastics in 100% of sampled seawater and marine species, including fish, squid, and shrimp.

While all plastics are harmful, straws are extremely harmful and even fatal to marine life due to getting stuck or ingested, and typically are too small to be recycled at facilities.

Here are our top 3 favorite straws to use:

Verve states that American spending on cleaning, safety, and wellness products increased 34% since pre-COVID spending in February 2020. According to recent stats, the average family spends a whopping $680 every year on cleaning supplies.

Your home should be a safe place and not just on Earth Day. That’s why you should make the switch to cleaner and more eco-friendly cleaning products if you haven’t already.

Honestly the BEST way – is to stop buying half the stuff and the deals you think you should.

  6. Emma T

I’m looking for options for clothing/textile recycling. For the clothes, towels, lines, etc that are not fit to donate. Like underwear, single socks, paint stained or have holes. I know of at least two onlinepanies that do it, but maybe there is one that will be giving deals onlinee earth day? Or suggestions for potential local places to check to avoid these items from going to the landfill? Just a thought for something else to look into.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Great question! We have some tips on that in #7 over here. I also did do a quick search of some possible options you might be able to find locally. These do seem to vary by region.
City or county recycling programs – Some cities accept textiles via curbside or drop-off on Earth Day.
TerraCycle – They partner with brands and local drop-off spots for hard-to-recycle items.
Animal shelters – Some will accept old towels, sheets, and even worn t-shirts for bedding.
Textile recycling bins – Often found near grocery stores, parking lots, or landfills. Try looking for:
      USAgain
      Planet Aid
Zero-waste stores or co-ops – Some offer collection points or can point you to local resources.

      Hope this helps! πŸ€—β€οΈ
