Easy tomato soup recipe in a bowl next to a sandwich

If you whip up a batch of this soup, keep it warm in a slow cooker until dinner. My kids love dipping grilled cheese sandwiches into tomato soup, and they really enjoyed this version!

Warm up with this delicious cheesy chicken soup!

  11. Jo Ann

If you don’t have fresh basil could you use dried basil and any idea how much you would use?

  12. Sarah

I’ve got a cold and wanted something warm and yummy and this was warm and YUMMY!! Even my 10 year old who is anti-tomato soup decided to give this a try and dipped his grilled cheese like it was going out of style! I didn’t have crushed tomatoes but did have 1/2 a box of tomato sauce and a jar and a half of spaghetti sauce (which I blended to get rid of chunks) but it worked just fine. I will never buy my tomato basil soup from *afeway again!! Thank you for (all) the delicious recipie(s) Lina and Collin:) And I fed 6 for under $10 to top it all off!! Bonus:)

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      Oh great news, thanks!

Here’s our recipe section- you can filter on the top right by meal type. Hope that helps!

  17. Andrea

Is the basil overpowering? Just trying to decide if I should leave it out so my kids eat it. They love regular tomato soup with no basil.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

We didn’t think so but you can dial it back if concerned 👍

      • Andrea

        Thank you!

  18. RK

Is there any way I could use fresh tomatoes in this recipe to get a similar taste?

I sent this recipe to my aunt in Chicago. Hopefully they have the ingredients. I don’t think anyone will go out to the grocery store as it is already 5 degrees there right now. It’ll be perfect for their weather, minus 20 tonight with wind chill factor of -40, yikes!
