Spaghetti and Meatballs Cupcakes (Fun April Fools’ Day Dessert Idea!)

Spaghetti and Meatballs Cupcakes

yield: 24 SERVINGS

prep time: 15 MINUTES

cook time: 20 MINUTES

total time: 35 MINUTES

Ingredients

Directions

1

Prepare your cupcakes according to package instructions. Let them cool.

2

Tint the frosting with the yellow food coloring. Spread a thin layer of tinted frosting on top of the cupcakes. Arrange the cupcakes on a serving platter close together.

3

Spoon the remaining tinted frosting into a piping bag with a Number 2 Wilton tip. Alternatively, you could use a Ziploc bag and snip a small corner from the bag (1/8 inch). Either piping method is fine!

4

Now, have fun piping the frosting all over the cupcakes to make the noodles (this was my favorite part!). Make sure to pile the β€œnoodles” high and have some of the β€œnoodles” hang over the edges of the cupcakes.

5

Mix the "meatball" chocolates with the strawberry preserves in a bowl to coat. Spoon some of the preserves on top of each cupcake. Place preserves-coated chocolate on top of each cupcake. With a spoon, drizzle cupcakes with the remaining strawberry preserves.

6

Sprinkle the grated white chocolate over the cupcakes to look like Parmesan cheese.

7

Enjoy, and Happy April Fool's Day!

Hip Tips for these Spaghetti & Meatball April Fools’ Cupcakes:

  • The “meatballs” in these cupcakes are Fererro Rocher brand chocolates, and look so realistic! They do have hazelnuts, so if you need a nut-free option maybe consider rolling rice crispy treats into balls, or perhaps use chocolate donut holes.
  • You’ll need a “sauce” for the meatballs, and strawberry jam looks super realistic for it. Really any type of strawberry topping would work.
  • For the frosting, I first dyed white store-bought frosting using yellow dye and then piped it all over the cupcake with a pastry bag and a very thin frosting tip. In a pinch, I’m sure you could put the frosting into a freezer bag and cut one of the corners to make a very small tip.
  • Instead of the grated white chocolate as parmesan, coconut shavings would be yummy, too!

April Fool's Day spaghetti and meatball Cupcakes on a plate

These spaghetti and meatball cupcakes are always such a hit!

These April Fools’ cupcakes really made my kids laugh. I loved watching their faces as they tried to figure out what they were actually eating. It’s a harmless, fun way to add a little fun to normal cupcakes.

These would be terrific for a birthday celebration, too, or for any time you need a cool, inventive dessert to bring. Enjoy! 🙂

Had one onlinee through with Tastefully Simple Almond cake. You bake the cake, freeze it, slice it, and cut it with a crinkle cut vegetable cutter or knife into french fries. Then toast the cake cuts in brown butter on the stove, and serve with Rhubarb Strawberry Jam in a cup on the side.

Reminds me of eating Spaghetti Eis in Germany growing up. It is an all year long offer in Ice Cream Parlors in Germany. In the winter the ice cream stores are changed to another store like fur stores or luggage stores. LOL

    I love this

We used this idea for my son’s 1st birthday (cloudy with a chance of meatballs theme). Safeway made the cupcakes for us and then we put the ferrer Rocher on it without the sauce, but also added a small wooden fork and it turned out great! πŸ™‚

How funny! I am going to save this one! Thanks for sharing.

  10. Tera

I need a cake recipe that makes just four cupcakes–I don’t want to have to deal with all that extra cake πŸ™‚
Love the excuse to buy Ferrero Rocher, though (and you can bet I’m gonna get the biggest package I can find–don’t mind having extra of those around)!

      • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Oh perfect! Your reply came through as I was typing something similar. πŸ€— So glad you found an option that works for ya! πŸ’•

Hey Tera! There seem to be lots of “small batch cupcake recipes” available when searching online that might be helpful, if you already have the ingredients on hand. ❀️🧁 Hoping you enjoy this fun April Fools Day idea, and your extra Ferrero Rocher! πŸ€—
