cook time: 30 MINUTES

total time: 40 MINUTES

Ingredients

Directions

1

Let pie crust dough onlinee to room temperature for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Grease the ice cube tray with cooking spray.

2

Unroll the room-temperature pie dough and gently place it on top of the ice cube tray. Using your knuckle, gently push the dough into the ice cube space. It doesn't have to go all the way to the bottom of the tray. Try to get it about halfway into the space. You can cut away the excess dough from the sides and use that to fill in the remaining ice cube tray spaces.

3

Fill each ice cube space with 3 mini pepperonis, 2 to 3 olives, a pinch of mozzarella cheese, and about a teaspoon of marinara sauce.

4

Top the ice cube tray with the second pie crust. Press down along the edges and center of the tray to seal the pizza bites. Cut away any excess dough from the sides of the tray.

5

Flip the tray over and pop out the pizza bites. If they stick, place the tray in the freezer for about 10 to 15 minutes and then try again.

6

Once the pizza bites are out of the ice cube tray, cut them into individual pieces and place them on the baking sheet.

7

Beat the egg with the water and brush the pizza bites with the egg wash. Lightly sprinkle with Italian seasoning.

8

Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Enjoy with marinara sauce or Ranch.

It doesn’t get any better than homemade pizza bites.

This super simple recipe will make these a regular snack at your house. You only need a few ingredients – premade pie dough, marinara sauce, and your favorite pizza topping ingredients. I used mini pepperoni, black olives, and mozzarella cheese.

Oh, and an ice cube tray… you’ll need one of those!

How to make homemade pizza bites with the ice cube tray hack:

A word of caution, you have to be gentle with the pie dough. Make sure you let it onlinee to room temperature before you unroll it and try to press it down into the ice cube tray. Otherwise, it will crack.

Also, the pie dough onlinees in a circle for pies, not a rectangle for an ice cube tray. You’ll be able to get at least 14 pizza bites from the dough. My ice cube tray has 18 spots for reference. You can trim the extra dough off the sides of the ice cube tray and then use that to fill in the rest of the spaces.

Tips for making homemade pizza bites:

  • It’s very important that you let the premade pie dough onlinee to room temperature before you unroll it. To be safe, I’d let it sit out for about 30 minutes.
  • Be careful when you’re pushing the dough into the ice cube tray. Use your knuckle so that you don’t poke a hole in the dough with your fingernail.
  • To easily get the pizza bites out of the ice cube tray, make sure you grease it with cooking spray. If the dough is still sticking, pop the tray in the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • You can use any of your favorite pizza toppings.
  • I dipped the pizza bites in marinara, but Ranch would also be amazing!

I love this idea! When I make mini pizzas or breakfast omelets I use Jimmy Dean® Meat Lovers Breakfast Sausage and Bacon Crumbles, I get from Kroger. I would probably use it for these too.
