mini pancake cereal in bowl

Pancake cereal is a thing!

With many people working from home and various closures across the entire country, we’re finding new ways to fend for ourselves in the kitchen… and this new breakfast craze definitely caught our eye.

Mini pancake cereal is the new life hack that turns ordinary pancakes into teeny tiny pancakes that are spoonable (or forkable). Yum!

Turns out that getting more time in the kitchen is actually the best thing ever because people are hacking recipes left and right (like waffle maker grilled cheese, whipped coffee, and 3-ingredient whipped strawberry milk) — it’s no wonder they’re all going viral and we’re all getting hungry. 😍

Pancake cereal is no different, 🤤 and we all know that pancakes are always, YES!

No matter the time of day, season, or meal, pancakes always hit the spot and the process to have delicious mini pancake cereal is actually quite simple. You’ll just need some of your favorite pancake mix (or make your own), one Ziploc bag, maple syrup, your favorite pancake toppings, and a bowl to put it all in.

Speaking of toppings, here are some ideas for your pancake cereal:

    • Fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, etc.)
    • Honey or Agave (instead of syrup)
    • Nutella
    • Chocolate chips
    • M&Ms
    • Bananas
    • Nuts
    • Chopped bacon (because why not?)

Hip Tip: Psst… are you Keto?! We have the best keto pancake recipe over on our sister site, Hip2Keto, so you can hop on the pancake cereal train, too. 😉

black pan with mini pancakes cooking on gas stove top

After you’ve whipped up your pancake batter, you’ll pour it all into your bag. Then you’ll cut a small hole in one of the bottom corners so it’s easy to pipe the mini pancakes onto your pan. Better yet, if you have a large pancake griddle, you could most likely get all of your mini pancakes done in one fell swoop. 🙌

Just like traditional pancakes, you’ll flip them over once they start to bubble. Remember that since these are teeny tiny pancakes, cooking them won’t take long at all so don’t go changing the laundry while these babies are cooking.

Did you also know that you can make pancakes in a sheet pan? They’re a team favorite around here and they’re one of the easiest hacks ever!

Now your mini pancakes are ready to enjoy!

To butter them up, you could toss them around for a few seconds in a pan with butter or just enjoy them plain! Then pour them in your cereal bowl and add your favorite toppings – the more the merrier. Although we’d reonlinemend holding the milk for this cereal, anything is game during quarantine, so have at it, friends. 😉

My 18yo daughter saw these on TikTok and just had to make them the other day. I rolled my eyes but they were super cute.

Wouldn’t it be easier to just make a big pancake and then cut it into pieces with a pizza cutter and throw it in a cereal bowl? Life hack, lol!

    • Beth

Same thought! We are a family of 6 so making these tiny guys for the whole family would take way more time. I’m sure my kids would love them but we typically just make big ones and tear them up in smaller pieces before putting syrup on.

    • Tracey

I was thinking the same thing- but use cookie cutters. I have a set of tiny ones from pampered chef that would be fun – and the grown-ups can eat the leftover bits! Would be fun to do that for a holiday – hearts for Valentine’s Day, etc.

    • Lunafalls

With the method of tearing or cutting up a larger pancake, I think the “bits” would soak up a lot more syrup (because of the exposed edges). Now that could be a good or a bad thing. 🙂

i love tiny pancakes and i have also been known to pull my kiddos out of bed at 10 pm if they wanted pancakes with me…because no one should eat night time pancakes alone! they are 26, 22, 20 and 16 now and after all these years the 22 year old is the only one that always says no and thinks the rest of us are nuts lol

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

LOL! I’m loving your nighttime tradition! Thanks for sharing with us!

I made a Keto version of this

  7. J Doe

Been doing this for years. Nothing like little pancakes drenched in syrup instead of milk. Have done the pizza size / slices too.

  8. Kristina

I just ordered some keto pancake mix (only have to add water) from Walmart the other day for pick up. If anyone’s keto 🤗

    • kquinn

Please give the name of the Keto pancake mix 😊

  9. ChristieG

Could make this with protein powder and fresh berries for another alternative…
