Tips for making the best Crockpot chili:

  • I used chicken thighs, but you can use breast meat if preferred. In a pinch, you could always skip the meat, or use canned chicken instead.
  • Add a hot sauce like Tabasco if desired, or chopped jalapeños. Since I’m making this for my kids I skipped that part, but I’m sure it’d be yummy.
  • I seasoned using a packet of onion soup mix for additional flavor, and it was YUM. Plus, I have one child who can spot a piece of diced fresh onion a mile away, so this is a good alternative!

  2. Michelle

This looks delicious! Definitely will be making soon!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Oh good! Enjoy 😉

  3. SusieV

I love the flavor of onion soup mix but don’t care for the onion pieces—texture. I flip the pack upside down to get most of the powder and sift the rest!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh great tip! Thanks for sharing 👍

  4. Jessie

I don’t care for chili but we make a recipe very similar to this one and I could eat it every day! Add 1/8-1/4 cup brown sugar, you won’t be disappointed 😉

  5. Michelle

I don’t have onion powder, but I do have French onion soup… would that be a weird substitution? Lol, I’ve pretty much got everything else.

    • Michelle

Update: I made this tonight with French onion soup and, other than being a bit too spicy for us, it was pretty good! Thank you!

  6. Loren

Would I use regular uncooked beans as a substitute for canned bean?

  7. Ruby C

Lina, you always have the best recipes… yum!! So making this. Thanks again, you all are great at Hip2Save.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh thanks for the sweet feedback Ruby!

  8. Lisa

Love how easy this recipe is. I’m not a tomato lover but I can do the diced tomatoes in anything after they’ve been through my Ninja blender… just a bit! Love how easy this recipe is. Thanks much.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh good – thanks for sharing Lisa! Enjoy 😉

  9. Laure

Sadly, all can goods have been hoarded in my area.

    • Lisa JP

Same here. No canned goods. We had to quarantine early due to my healthy issues. I’m on day 36. This weekend our month of food we had needed replacing. Sent hubby to 6 places (unfortunately) and there were no canned goods, no frozen or fresh meat or seafood of any kind..and one Target he visited has absolutely nothing at all on any shelf on the food side of the store, nor in the paper products or cleaning aisle. He said it basically looked closed down. I don’t know what we are going to do.

      • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh no. I’m hoping that changes for you and everyone real soon.

      • TheQueenBee

Amazon may have some things you need available for shipping.

  10. Carmen

Thank you so much for this recipe! I put it in the slow cooker early this afternoon. Our grocery stores are empty. We are limited on ingredients in the home but I had everything for this recipe.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Aw I’m so glad that worked out then. Hugs from me ❤️

      • Carmen

        Thank you. =)

It was delicious! I would have loved sour cream with it but it is definitely a recipe I will save. Thanks again!

  11. Kathy Webb

Add a block of cream cheese after this finishes cooking. Delicious!!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      oh yum! good idea 🙂

  12. Chet

Skip the onion soup mix instead use fiesta ranch dressing mix and throw a package of cream cheese on top. Your welonlinee

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Nice! Thanks for sharing!

    • Nancy Crabtree

Would just regular ranch dressing mix work? And then add the cream cheese too?

  13. Joyce Hartwell

Am saving to email to try later

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Nice- I hope you enjoy It Joyce!

  14. Shopper123

Could you use frozen corn instead? Would you cool it before?

    • Claudette (Hip Sidekick)

Hey Shopper123! Yes, frozen corn would work! Hope you love it!❤️

  15. sl

Used 1 chopped onion instead of onion soup mix. Much cheaper and healthier. Yum! Love the recipe

    • Claudette (Hip Sidekick)

Sweet! A chopped onion is a great substitute! So glad you love the recipe!💗

  16. Donna Swartout

We put about 2 tablespoons of cumin in it and it adds a added flavor but eliminate the corn.

  17. Beth

Making this right now with a large can of crushed tomatoes, can of black beans, half bag of frozen corn, onion soup mix, chili powder, minced garlic and small cut up pieces of chicken breast. So pretty much as written, it is smelling good, I’m hoping it tastes good too! Thought it would be a perfect meal for our busy night especially since it’s 1 degree outside right now…

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh nice! Yes, stay warm out there. Hopefully this will be a cozy soup 😀
