Easy Baked Salmon In Oven

yield: 4 SERVINGS

prep time: 5 MINUTES

cook time: 30 MINUTES

total time: 35 MINUTES

Ingredients

Directions

1

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2

Place salmon fillets in a small casserole dish or glass baking dish. If you purchased salmon with skin, place the fillets skin side down (the skin easily peels off after it has been baked).

3

Generously salt and pepper the salmon.

4

Squeeze the juice of one lemon over the salmon and then drizzle olive oil over everything.

5

Add a slice of lemon and rosemary over each piece of fish.

6

Let marinate in fridge for about an hour... if you don't have an hour, just marinate for as long as you can. It will still be delicious even without marinating at all.

7

Cover baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 25 to 30 minutes or until fish easily flakes with a fork. Remove foil and turn up the heat on oven to 425.

8

Add grated parmesan cheese to each piece of salmon. Bake for another 2 to 3 minutes until the salmon starts to look a little crispy.

9

Remove from the oven and serve hot. Yum!

Easy Baked Salmon in Oven

Love a delicious and easy salmon meal?

Salmon is one of my favorite things to order at a restaurant and it’s also surprisingly simple to make at home! My family loves oven baked salmon and this recipe is so easy to make any night of the week.

I haven’t always been confident at cooking fish, but lately, I’ve enjoyed cooking it more often like this amazing keto lemon caper halibut and other simple salmon recipes like this one I’m sharing today. My baked salmon in the oven recipe is so easy that you can’t fail!

salmon in the oven

This easy baked salmon made in the oven is one of Collin’s favorite recipes!

Here’s what she had to say:

“You see, previously when I would try to cook salmon… well, I would either over-cook it, under-cook it, or just make sure it wasn’t edible. This recipe tastes just like you are dining at a restaurant. It’s also super simple to make and doesn’t require very many ingredients. And did I mention it’s delicious?!”

Ingredients for baked salmon in the oven

Hip tips for baked salmon in the oven:

  • This easy baked salmon idea is simple to adapt and season to taste. I used a few sprigs of fresh rosemary since it’s what I had on hand, but you can definitely use any herbs on hand as desired.
  • Instead of olive oil try using real mayonnaise! That’s another way I love to bake salmon in the oven. It makes it nice and caramelized.
  • My favorite kitchen tool for using fresh lemon in recipes is a citrus press like this! It makes it super easy to squeeze out fresh juice.
  • Adding grated parmesan cheese at the end is onlinepletely optional, but adds yummy flavor and texture!

taking a bite of baked salmon

Baked salmon in the oven is such an easy and healthy meal!

If you’re hesitant about making fish at home or think you don’t like salmon, try this easy baked salmon in oven recipe because it’s oh so good! My family loved it, and this is pretty much a no-fail method. If your weeknight dinners have you feeling stuck in a rut, add this to the rotation! 😂

reheating salmon in the air fryer

Also, I wanted to mention that if you happen to have leftovers, try warming up salmon using an air fryer! Usually reheated fish isn’t my favorite, but I tried reheating in the air fryer and loved how it came out sizzling and delicious. I just drizzled a little more olive oil and heated it up for a few minutes and it’s so good!

In fact, I think I may try this recipe exclusively using my air fryer next time!

Make this teriyaki marinated salmon on the grill next! Or, try our homemade keto salmon patties!

That looks delicious! I love salmon. I never make it the same way twice. Just last time I put the fillets in foil steam bags, or tents, whatever they are called with orange slices on top. Very good. I also like to to make sauces with soy, ginger, peach marmalade, garlic, honey, maple syrup, whole grain mustard, etc. Any onlinebo between sweet and spicy I like. I also prefer my salmon well done. I thought I hated salmon growing up because my mom made salmon patties a lot, then I discovered real salmon and it is my favorite protein source.

    • Teresa

My mom made those patties, too. I hated them, but like you, I love real salmon!

  2. Sarah

You are too funny lol but, that salmon meal looks sooooo yummoooo!!! 🙂 Great job!

  3. Nicole

Another great way to marinate salmon if you don’t have a fresh lemon on hand is to pour some Kraft Sun Dried Tomato Vinigrette on top and bake like you did in your recipe. It’s delicious.. if you’ve planned ahead you can also put sliced sun dried tomatoes and parsley on top.

Also, an easy way to do a butternut squash is to use a potato peeler to the outside skin.

    • amy

      awesome

  4. Cheryl S.

    Looks delish!

  5. Laura

My hubby and I LOVE salmon. I’ve made Ina Garten’s Asian Salmon recipe dozens of times and it’s amazing!

Salt and pepper the salmon and either grill it or cook it in a little olive oil on the stove. When it’s fully cooked, drizzle this sauce on top. You also can marinade it in this same sauce.

    2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
    3 tablespoons good soy sauce
    6 tablespoons good olive oil
    1/2 teaspoon minced garlic

    • mel

Laura I made that the other night too, really good!! 🙂 Collin your dinner looks heavenly, you really know how to cook girl, thanks for sharing!!!! 🙂

  6. melinda imbriale

Is there a certain type of salmon that you buy? I am also trying to do the Paleo lifestyle as well and that just looks AWESOME!!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I am not picky when it onlinees to Salmon… we usually purchase whatever is on sale. We used Alaskan Salmon when I made the meal pictured above.

    • Tiffani Lusson

You should always try to buy Wild Alaskan Salmon vs farm raised. Farm raised salmon can have antibiotics, pesticides, growth hormones and artificial coloring agents. If you can’t get fresh, frozen Wild Alaskan Salmon is just as good.

      • robyn

I second what tiffani l. stated. WILD is the best option.

        • katie

Wild is what you should get no matter what kind of seafood!! Wild fresh is the best. Wild flash frozen at sea is second. Wild frozen is third.

  7. Annie

I love salmon! I’ll be sure to bookmark this post 🙂

  8. CW

My husband adores the very limited time salmon that onlinees out of some special river (whatever, lol) and the Wilderness Lodge at Disney World only gets it about a week a year…its the best on earth. I’ll give him this recipe and see what he thinks (and get back to you) 🙂 Thanks! He’s quite picky…..

    • Mary

CW—is it Copper River Salmon? If so it is great!

  9. Terry (female, mom just had so many kids, the y was automatic)

Can’t wait to try this, I have never fixed it at home and it be as good as the restaurant. I am emailing the entire thing to my email account until I have the time to do the onlineplete recipe and the picture for my recipe book. Thanks and thanks again.

    • Joy

Haha Terry..like your explaination of your name.. my sister is Terri.. I have 8 siblings..

Thank you for the email idea..all along I have been looking back at Collin’s and other hipsters recipes..sometimes I can’t find them..I just emailed this to myself..I like the butternut squash fries idea..yummy…

Martha Stewart’s Living magazine (which I got free of course) has a great butternut squash/apple soup in the January issue.. going to make it this week..

  10. HA

This looks FANTASTIC!! My husband and I are doing WW… I’m so over it. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with healthy olive oil, coconut oil, nuts, etc. I know that’s not what they’re saying, and it’s more portion control/awareness of fat sources… but I think that the paleo diet is a great idea! Thank you for the recipe!!

  11. jai

I agree. Cutting a butternut squash is hard and time consuming!!!! AHHH. I always question why in the world AM I DOING THIS!!!! But, in the end…WORTH IT!! YUM!

    • Melissa

Yes, I want to know an easy way to cut butternut squash.

      • Mary

I put it in the oven to soften it first and then I peel it~I do this when I make butternut squash soup!

        • Paulette Anderson

I put the squash in the microwave to loosen the skin some. I do this with sweet potatoes, too!

      • Joy

I have the produce worker to cut it in half for me.. this way I don’t have to wait on my husband to get home from work and cup the squash in half for me…they wrap it up for you..back together like it’s a whole squash again..I bought one about 2 weeks ago..I cooked half of it and still have the other half I am going to cook this week. it is still nice looking.. very fresh..I actually checked it yesterday to make sure..or you can purchase a smaller one..then as one other hipster mentioned…I use a potato peeler.. works great..and much easier than a knife..

Collin the salmon looks great.. I usually just cook mine w/ some parsley, basil, sea salt, pepper and then squeeze some lemon over it.. back it for about 15 mins..on my broiler pan.. covered in foil..then remove foil and cook about 5 more mins.. I use the same ingredients for the grill..just add some olive oil so it doesn’t stick.. thnx alot..

      • cindi

Costco sells pre sliced or diced squash in their refrigerated area. It’s more epxensive than buying a squash obviously, but to me so worth it!

    • Cassandra

Easiest tip ever for cutting squashes… use the “child safe” knife that you use to cut a pumpkin at halloween. Works like a charm, can’t cut your hand open and everyone has one in their junk drawers from last halloween.

      You’re welonlinee!

      • Brook

If you microwave the squash first, it makes it alot easier to cut.

  12. laura s.

thank you for posting this!! yummm….cant wait to try this!!
my husband wont eat fish so i usually dont cook it but i have been and he hasnt onlineplained too much about the smell….soooo i will def be trying this!

  13. Sunny

This looks great- thanks for all of the recipes you have been posting!

  14. LAurie

Collin I just wanted to say thanks for passing on your recipes. I have tried several and really enjoyed them. As someone who does not particularly enjoy cooking I appreciate real recipes that are easy to make. Kepp it up!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Awe… thanks, Laurie! It makes me happy to hear that! 🙂

  15. andrea

Salmon is super yummy with pesto. Try it sometime, I also bake chicken that way and sometimes add a slice of provolone on top and sliced tomato. We call it green chicken=)

  16. Suzanne

I have never eaten salmon until recently. I had a salmon patty and really didn’t like it at all. Is there a difference in taste? I just can’t see buying it if it is the same flavor. I would love to love it. Also do the squash fries taste similar to sweet potato fries?

    • Stacy

OMG, NO!! (sorry for the intense response, but believe me when I say NO, LOL)

In my personal experience I could eat baked salmon every day of the week if it were healthy to do so, but a salmon patty I would not be paid to eat. I seriously have tried 2 times to eat one and both times (sorry for this visual) I ate a bite or two and had to spit it out and threw the rest away. It was too fishy and too ‘not like a hamburger’ to be placed on a bun . . . try baked salmon. If the ‘fishy smell’ bothers you, I have found that soaking the fillet in vinegar for 20 mins before marinating it in the above recipe Colin gave or your own marinade, eliminates the odor but keeps the taste. It is super easy to fix, I buy the kind without skin too, so it even more easy to prepare.

Try it ! And I am glad you asked, because I had the same question before I tried the patty and when I bit into it for the first time I quickly realized the two were NOT the same taste at all!

  17. SimplySara

I’m with you on the squash cutting – I once sliced through my thumb nail and thumb trying to cut one (the stupid thing rolled and I caught my thumb!) and I haven’t cut a whole one since. Now I wrap the squash up in two or three plastic bags, tie them in a knot and throw the thing off my balcony to crack it open. The pieces aren’t even but I seldom need them to be and it saves me a $50 copay, four hours Urgent Care and having to have my thumb nail removed.

    • Laurie

Boy did I get a good laugh out of your onlinement!!!:) I don’t have a balcony to throw my squash off of and those things are TOUGH all right.

      • Pat Goff

My neighbor (we lived in a duplex) had some tomato plants on the back deck (we shared it, it was huge, used to be a loading dock) and I found out he was pulling the tomatoes off and letting them get ripe on the ledge of the deck and then throwing them across the street into the woods. I asked him why and he said because he didn’t like tomatoes, his mom brought the plants to him so he had to take care of them. I started taking the tomatoes to work with me to the Ronald McDonald House. Solved that problem. I always wondered if the tomato plants were growing in the woods since he was throwing them in there for over a year. LOL Then there was the rose story. LOL

  18. serena

I’ve noticed a HUGE difference when I put a little milk or soymilk on the top of it and then cover with foil, cook, etc. It onlinees out creamier and more moist. Yum!!!

  19. Heather

Try brushing salmon with teriyaki sauce and then baking. Yum!

  20. irene

Salmon on a charcoal grill is my favorite way to go. Marinate with Dijon mustard and a bit of garlic olive oil. And don’t forget to oil the grates or your salmon will be holding on for dear life! Indoors, a quick sear on a super high heated skillet gives that crunchy exterior with a medium center. Mmmmmm…

  21. Caramia

Love how hip2save is just not about coupons! and yes it looks very YUMMY!!!

  22. Lindsey

Hi Collin, I love your healthy recipes and ideas. 🙂 I’m trying to eat healthier (more fruits and veggies, less fat and sugar) and your blog is very encouraging. Would you be able to do a vegetarian recipe sometime soon? I’m a vegetarian and I’m always looking for healthy and fast meals to make.

  23. Annemarie

Hi Collin, here’s a super-easy marinade for salmon that even my kids will eat: 1/4 cup maple syrup plus 1-2 tablespoons soy sauce. Marinade for 30 minutes and then bake as you did until it flakes off. So good! Thanks for the recipes and great deals.

  24. Patty

I cook fish at least a couple of times a week and often wild salmon. It onlinees out great if you wrap the whole piece or pieces in aluminum foil after you season. The stick on a cookie sheet or other dish and cook – open the aluminum foil the last few minutes under the broiler – much easier to clean up and the bottom onlinees off super easy. My favorite topping is dijon, a little honey and pepper……thinking I’ll make that tonight! I love making sweet potato fries.

  25. JoAnna

We use the same basic recipe for tilapia, too 🙂

  26. Kristy and Mary

I make this dish often but throw it in the toaster oven on broil. Works quite well and is much cheaper on the electricity bill than the oven! =)

  27. PaigeP

I liberally sprinkle salmon with garlic salt and lemon pepper then put it in a gallon ziploc with lemon juice to Marinate (easy cleanup). Then I grill it on my George foreman about seven minutes. Super, super easy and a family favorite.

  28. Dee

Thanks for posting this! Great timing — It showed up in my FB news feed as I was about to search for a salmon recipe last night.

  29. julie s

You know what stops me from making salmon or most any fish-tilapia for instance? It’s the icky fish smell that lingers in my kitchen forever! Is there a way to stop the smell? And please don’t say “scentsy”.

    • Stacy

LOL . . . you sound like I did a week ago! But I just learned this ‘trick’ this past weekend in fact, it won’t eliminate the smell onlinepletely, but I soaked the fish in vinegar for 20-30 mins before I soaked in my marinate and cooked it. It eliminated the smell so much and added to the moist taste too, the fish did not taste like vinegar either. It was reonlinemended by my mother in law (who is the BEST cook I know) because she hates the fishy smell too and I always noticed her fish was so tasty but her house did not reek for days after, so I had to ask her secret! I tried it and I won’t cook it any other way now, it worked. I still had the fish smell, but it seemed to go away within a few hours. I definitely could not smell it the next morning or when I came from work the next day even, which I would always have had before.

      Good luck!

  30. donna

I absolutely love Salmon, but have always been afraid to make it at home myself. I never really knew what kind to buy and the best way to make it. This sounds so wonderful and the picture of your dinner looks sooo good! I just may have buy some fresh Salmon this week and give it a try. Yum!

  31. Sarah

Im making this salmon and butternut squash right now! i hope it turns out as well as yours did! Great recipies thank for posting it

  32. Theresa

Umm, ever think of making “Collin’s Cookbook”?! All the food you make looks so yummy!!!

  33. Laura

Just popping in to say that this is THE ONLY way I cook salmon now. I just couldn’t get it right before, but this way is amazing – perfectly juicy and flaky. Thanks, Collin!

  34. Gina

How do you time with the fries with the Salmon?

  35. Mel

Just made it and it was delicious, even my picky son ate 2 helpings. For the seasoning I used Emerald’s seasoning.

  36. Kelly

How much minced garlic do you use in this recipe?

  37. Marilyn

So glad I found this on Pinterest. Tried it today and it is so delicious. Thank you. Like you I ,don’t measure, just add what I think might work. 🙂 I did add basil & thyme( just have this thing about any fish &thyme). I only used 1 lemon & will increase to 2 next time. Thanks again.

  38. linda

I tried this last wkend, I’m making it again tomorrow! We love it!

  39. Audra Patt Spaulding

My daughter cannot stand salmon. When I made this for the first time she not only ate it but asked for seconds. I’ve tried many salmon recipes….all have failed the approval of my family. This recipe will be a regular on our menu. Thank you for sharing.

  40. Ty Hodges

This was delicious! Maybe the most moist salmon I have ever made.

  41. Teresa

I use this method all the time now that I found your post. The only thing I change up is the flavor. My favorite so far is just spreading this home made roasted garlic and herb butter that I make all over each filet, it makes the softest, buttery yummy salmon ever!!!

  42. Valeta

Just popped this recipe in the fridge to marinade, and excited to see how it turns out. My only worry is that I only had sea salt and hope that I didn’t over salt it! We will see!!!

  43. Gayle

Can you cook cod and halibut the same way?

  44. Kurt

I made this recipe with steelhead trout. Amazing!

  45. Bryan Bryant

It was excellent. An eve to adore. Collards Baked potato. Beets Mmmmm

  46. Ihearthip

I’m sad because your old salmon recipe was my go-to but now this one seems to have replaced it? This dish looks yummy but I wanted to make the simple salmon recipe.

  47. Ihearthip

No 🙁 but thanks!! The one I used to reference was called Easy Baked Salmon that is Edible! Or, something very close to that. It was very similar to this recipe, but no cheese or lemon slices. It used basil. That’s alright- I’ll keep using this one and modify it.

  48. Pat Goff

I have tuna steaks at home. Going to try this tonight with Tuna. Haven’t figured out how to cook it but it was on sale so I bought it.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Great idea to try those out with this recipe, Pat. Let us know how it turns out. I’m not personally a tuna fan, but I have friends that are and they really enjoy tuna steaks. 🤗💕

      • Pat Goff

My brother loves tuna and if I don’t put any seasoning on it I can also feed it to my dog. She is allergic to almost everything and can’t eat dog food so we have to cook meals for her.

        • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

That’s right! I remember you mentioning your pup on another deal. Glad you were able to find the tuna steaks for a great price for all to enjoy! 🐾 🥰
