Need a dish drying rack that won’t take up space?

holding a roll-up drying mat

You’ve gotta check out this clever dish drying rack from Amazon that fits right over the kitchen sink and then rolls right up when you’re finished! It’s one of the must-have kitchen tools I use daily—and would definitely be on the list of my favorite things!

This kitchen tool is a team fave!

I actually first saw a similar rack while visiting Collin’s home on our last team retreat, and I bought this roll-up dish kitchen rack as soon as I came home. (Actually, many of us on the Hip2Save team now own it!) I find it to be super handy, plus it looks nice. I love the sleek look of this so much better than those plastic clunky dish racks that take up valuable counter space, don’t you?

Even with a dishwasher, miscellaneous things still need hand washing. Air flows easily through the rack, and this dries the dishes quickly. The dryer is made of a non-slip, sturdy material that secures to the top of the sink and won’t slip around or sag, even when there are heavier pots sitting on top.

There are so many uses for this drying rack!

In my house, I think it actually encourages everyone to quickly wash their drinking cups. Plus, since the roll-up drainer sits on top of the sink, the sink stays cleaner and clutter-free. In addition to washing dishes:

    • You can use it as a surface to wash produce and prep food.
    • Use it as a spoon rest, then just rinse it off easily after cooking.
    • Place small washcloths and sponges to dry.
    • Wash and dry baby toys, bottles, binkies, and other small items on top.
    • Keep another roll-up mat in the laundry room for air-drying delicate knit fabrics, baseball caps, and other hand-washable items.

Hip Tips for using this roll-up drying rack:

  • Don’t need the full width of the drying rack? Just roll out half of it to use. It’s so easy!
  • Need double the stability for heavier pots? Fold your drying mat in half over the sink.
  • You can clean your dryer in the top rack of the dishwasher, though I just hand wash mine and let it dry.
  • When you’re done, just roll and tuck the dryer behind the kitchen faucet for easy storage.
  • This roll-away mat is also perfect for college dorm sinks and for RVers!

Where has this been all my life?!

This roll-up kitchen rack is so smart and clever. If you’re like me, you’ll never go back to your old dish drainer again! In fact, I was so excited about this find I bought some as Christmas gifts for friends and family. It’s funny how something this simple can be such a game-changer for the kitchen sink area—I love it!

P.S. Two other helpful kitchen sink accessories I can’t live without are Scrub Daddy sponges that get soft in warm water and hard in cold, and I hang them using a flexible sink caddy that fits over the kitchen faucet!

I use mine daily it’s a very practical item. I often set my colander on top to rinse off spaghetti noodles. I also keep a utensil strainer on it to hold washed silverware

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh cool! Thanks for sharing Denise!

  2. Polly

Does anyone know if they fit under mount sinks?

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Yes it would just fit over the counter then, but maybe look at measurements to make sure it will fit over the top and bottom of your sized sink.

    • Lauren

Mine is an undermount farmhouse sink and it’s just a little slanted from where it sits on counter to the edge of sink… doesnt drip on my floor even with the slight slant.

  3. nana

I use mine everyday even if it’s just holding the coffee pot while I fill it with water.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Yes agree – it’s pretty handy like that! 👍

    • Jennine

Whoa! 🤯 filling up the Britta no more wet counter?!

  4. Suzanne

I bought one of these for my in-laws to use in their camper. Great space saver!

    • jkp

I just thought of using this in my camper.

      • Kristen

Our camper came with one and we love it!!

  5. Lori

I’ll have to get one. Looks very useful. Thanks Lina!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      You’ll love it Lori! ❤️

  6. Darla

Same – use mine everyday. Just throw it in the top rack of the dishwasher every few days to keep it clean.

  7. Laura

Love mine and use it every single day as a drainer for dishes that I wash quickly and don’t put in dishwasher.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Thanks for sharing Laura!

  8. julesm63

Can you dry plates by stacking them upright?

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hmm no I think they would fall through – not meant to be stacked that way I think.

    • Mary

We use it to dry baking sheets by stacking upright and it works well!

  9. Libby

I can’t live without my scrub daddy! I love that you can put it in the dishwasher too.

  10. patricialavenz-goff

This sounds awesome for people that have dishwashers. Mine died a few years ago and since I am saving to buy a car (mine was totaled in a wreck and I am still waiting on settlement and they only gave me $1200 to buy a replacement which isn’t enough of course) I haven’t been able to get a new one. I just use my vintage turquoise dish rack in the sink to hand wash my dishes. As soon as I get a dishwasher I am going to buy one. Thank you for sharing this information. I am going to let my girl friends know about it. It sounds awesome.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Thanks so much!

  11. Katie’s

Do they make this in bamboo? Then I am in.

  12. Erin

Somewhere along the way, I’ve beonlinee the queen of gadgets but this one really doesn’t do it for me. I WANT to love it for its small footprint and easy storage but it always seems to be in the way when it’s over the sink and I still have to use a drying mat under it if I use it on the counter (andif I’m using a drying mat, I’d rather just use a drying mat since nothing slides around). Veggies want to roll off unless they are carefully placed one by one (a collander is much more efficient if rinsing multiple veggies), and it’s really too small for large items, small items like silverware easily fall through unless placed perfectly perpendicular to the slats, and glasses seem too unstable. I just have not found a use for it in my kitchen yet.

    • Susie

Same with me! It just didn’t work for me either. I felt like I never had enough room to use the faucet, even if the rack was just on one side. The smaller stuff always rolled around. I went back to using a drying mat on the counter.

      • sarahclayton

I also wanted to love it, but now it is just rolled up and taking up space. It was always in my way. Funny how different things work differently for different people. 😊

        • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

          Yes and thanks for sharing!

    • Jody

I cut mine up! I use 3 rods just to let my dish rag hang to dry. It’s smaller to get out of way when washing dishes.

      • ohjodi

That’s a great idea! Mine is a few rods too wide for my sink, so that part lays over the countertop…it’s not a problem, but I love your idea to cut a few rods off….I’ll do that for when I don'[t need the whole rack.

  13. Misty

I love my roll up kitchen rack! Just ordered the sponge holder. Thanks for sharing!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Sure – thanks Misty!

This looks really nice. I’m going to try it. I’ve been using my dishwasher as a drying rack but sometimes it’s in use!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Great! Let us know your thoughts- thanks JD!

  15. Jackie

I really like this as somewhere to put hot pans that onlinee out of the oven, in addition to a drying rack.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Yes I agree! Thanks Jackie!

  16. Rae

    Lena,
What type and pattern are your kitchen countertops? Thank you.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

They are quartz, but we don’t know the pattern! It came with the house.

  17. Dani Lewis

During the pre-Christmas sales, you had a coupon for Target. I bought this over-the-sink dish rack and LOVE ti because it sits over the sink to drain like your roll-up rack. Even better, nothing slides away. For easy storage, I can slip it inside my dishwasher. Thank you!

  18. TiffanyHB

Thank you, Hip2Save. I actually didn’t order this, but I’ve never even thought of other drying rack possibilities. I didn’t think this would actually work for me, but I was able to order a drying rack that fits in my sink. Right now, it’s just my drying rack and my Kuerig on my counter. I don’t mind my Kuerig, but my drying rack is unsightly. Thanks so much!

  19. nickyB

I have a smaller version of the dish rack that I got at TJMaxx for under $10. And I got the flexible sink caddy from TJMaxx as well for around $5. I love both of them. I would like to have the larger dish rack but at more than twice what I paid it’s not worth it.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Cool! Thanks for sharing 👍

  20. Lmb

    Picked one up, TY:)

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Nice! Enjoy 😉

  21. barbara mattern

there was one of these in my sister in laws estate and one knew what it was – now I know! Can’t wait to tell everyone.

  22. Shop624

20.00 is too much. I have a smaller one that I paid almost 11.00. We do like and it’s very useful.

  23. Hillary Briolat

I bought one of these last year when we got a “one bowl” sink in our kitchen. I loved it so much I bought a second one for our camper. It’s great it there! Now I don’t have to take up precious counter space with the typical dish drying rack.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh awesome! Thanks for sharing Hillary!

  24. ToriSC

There are cheaper ones 17.8×11.2 for under $11 on Amazon with 4.8 stars. Just search roll up dish rack.

  25. Carrie

Got mine at Menards for $1.99.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Nice score!

    • Kp

      So did I!

  26. Lexi

This is the best thing I’ve ever bought for my kitchen. Pretty funny to say about a roll up drying mat. 😂 I use it every single day! I’ve bought them for gifts too because everyone mentions it when they onlinee over!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh my gosh yes! Haha I feel the same way Lexi. ❤️

  27. ladyashiri

Another potential game changer if you have a dishwasher and don’t have a whole lot to handwash – use the top rack of the dishwasher to drip dry and the bottom for things that go into the dishwasher. It doesn’t work for really small items and you need to remember to take out things that can’t stay in the dishwasher, but it involves less things on the counter, and I think that’s a good thing!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I like that tip! Thanks for sharing!

  28. Rebecca

LOoking forward to trying it! Thanks.

  29. tammyrees

mine was a gift from a dear friend, use it daily as a rack for drying dishes or extend a counter and I put a hot pan on it as I have limited counter space. Works great as both.

  30. D

This is on sale on Zulily (which hip2save has free shipping for) for $15.99 today.

  31. ohjodi

I love mine because it prevents me from putting dirty dishes in both sides of the sink.

  32. Debbie

Does anyone know if this can be used as a baking rack for cooling off fresh baked cookies?

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hmm..well it wouldn’t lift off of the counter very much but perhaps using it over the sink I’d say yes. Easy to wash afterwards too

  33. yvonne

Thank you. I’ve never seen this before. I’m definitely going to get one. One of the best things I have experienced about Hip2Save is i have found so new things I would have never known about.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Yay! Thanks for the feedback Yvonne!

  34. laurat99

I use mine to set hot pots and pans on while over the sink. The increased air movement around them helps cool down faster!

    • Lori

      I do this too.

  35. ginarudd

Still kicking myself for not buying the one at Aldi! It was half the price.

  36. lynnleco

We love ours! I didn’t want a dish drain out all the time (new house!!!!) so this works great. I even bought one that has a rack for plates, etc and added a utensil caddy too. It’s been a lifesaver for me. I can’t say enough good things about it.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Wow awesome! Thanks for sharing!

  37. Pattyd

I love this!! Have given several as housewarming/hostess gifts and everyone always loves it

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Oh nice! Thanks for sharing!

  38. witoldyna

I didn’t like it. It just barely fit my under mount sink and didn’t my standard sink we have now in the rental house. We got it only for the open house we had when selling our house and It now clutters the garage

  39. Kristi

I ordered one of these last time when it was posted and I love it! I use it on a daily basis!

    • Irene (Hip Sidekick)

This is what we want to hear, Kristi! Glad you are enjoying it!

  40. Kathleen

Found a stainless steel one for under $11!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh nice that sounds like a good find. 🙌

  41. Lmb

Bought this awhile back . ❤️it! We use it to put hot food on, as a dish rack, occasionally to hold our dish towel on, etc. etc. This is well made and there is not a day that goes by that it isn’t in use. I’m considering buying more for our adult children. My husband loves it too😉 Buy one you won’t regret it🙂

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Thanks so much for sharing! I agree it’s handy!

  42. VickiL

One of those things you didn’t know you needed until you got one. We use it everyday. It never gets put away.

  43. Mamamia

This came as an accessory to a sink we just got installed and I’m so excited to be able to use it. Headed to get the sponge Caddy too

  44. Dott

    This looks amazing.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      I love mine!

These things are fantastic. You can usually find them at TJ Maxx or the like for less than $10 each.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Thanks for sharing!

  46. twinmom2

I got one for my RV at Marshall’s for $9.99. Same size.Counter space in RV’s is limited so this is nice to just roll up and put away.
