  Thanks for this tip, never thought to do that! Also, if you need to marinate meats and it onlinees in a vacuum sealed bag – cut the bag open, add your marinade/seasoning then use your food saver to reseal. No need to waste a pricey gallon size zip loc.

   I have this and love it. We have went from a family of 7 down to 2 and it is hard to adjust to shopping and cooking in smaller quantities so use this all the time.

  How do you do it with a food saver leaving it in the original bag? Or do you need to use the food saver bags ?

  I leave it in the original bag and leave enough room to cut and reseal. I usually just press most of the air out vs using the machine to suck it out. You just place it in and press seal.

   Does the bag really pull apart? I used a smaller hand held heat sealer on bags and I had to cut them each time I wanted to open them, which made the bag smaller each time you opened it, not good if you open it every day. I just use a chip clip on my bags, easier than dragging something out of the drawer every time.

  Sorry but you have to cut it open, it sucks if you seal up chips & then you forget the scissors ✂️ on a camping trip!

   I just my seal a meal. Seal it in the same bag it came in then we just cut off the option we sealed for the next seal. Use it on chips and cereal mostly.

   This seems to be a lot of work for bags that would get opened regularly, but could be useful for stuff that doesn’t get used everyday. Also, with 2 teenage boys in the house, most food disappears before even having a chance to get stale!

   I just place it in the food save and press seal. A lot easier for me to find the machine vs a clip or rubber band. We use it mostly for cereals or thing we won’t eat often.

    I’ve seen people on YouTube videos do this with their flat iron or regular clothes iron by putting some tin foil over the plastic bag to protect the irons.

  The tin foil is basically folded in half over the two sides of the plastic bag that you want to seal. The video I saw only had the iron on the foil for 3-5 seconds. The foil kept the irons clean and let the heat through to melt the plastic ends together.

    Has anyone had issues of using something other than the original packaging/bag? Like if I’m using an actual ziplock? Is that plastic too soft, so to speak?
