Love cooking with cast iron like me? You NEED this cast iron scrubber in your life.
Some of my very favorite skillets are cast iron because they do such a great job searing food and will last forever if taken care of. I love the irresistible texture they give certain recipes and I 100% reonlinemend cooking with them.
The biggest downside in my opinion, however, is that sometimes cleaning cast iron cookware afterward is kind of a pain! While I am a big fan of cooking at home, cleaning dishes, in general, is one of my least favorite chores. 🤪
Even if you start with a perfectly oiled and seasoned pan, occasionally the stuck-on food is tough to remove, and kind of annoying to deal with. Sometimes I scrub mine out using salt as an abrasive to get rid of minor stuck on pieces, but sometimes I need something a little stronger!
My biggest tip for cleaning cast iron is to use a stainless steel chain scrubber!
I’ve personally owned this stainless steel chain mail cast iron cleaner and scraper via Amazon for a while now, and I’m happy to report back that it does a great job of easily grabbing hard to remove particles from cast iron skillets, griddles, grill pans, and dutch ovens.
The best part is it won’t scrape away your seasoned coating on the pan and the chain itself is easy to rinse clean and dishwasher safe.
To use this scrubber, you’ll need to place it in a dirty cast iron pan and either use your hand to scrub with the chain, or grab the sides of the pan and swirl the chain around, by moving it back and forth. This will loosen tough stuck-on food so that it’s much easier to wipe clean.
I often don’t use soap and water to clean cast iron because you want the seasoned oil finish to stay. That’s why this scraper makes cleaning cast iron so much easier and effective!
Here are the top reasons why I love my cast iron chainmail cleaner:
- This scrubber is ideal for cleaning all your cast iron cookware, such as cast iron pans, skillets, dutch ovens, griddles, waffle irons, etc.
- It’s easy to use, lightweight, and eliminates the need for harsh soaps and chemicals to keep your cast iron clean.
- The scrubber itself is easy to rinse clean after using and is dishwasher safe.
- You can also use it outside to scrub the BBQ grill and grilling tools/utensils.
- You can also use it on glass dishes, and also swirl this around inside jars and cups to clean them when doing dishes
I’m all about using kitchen tools that make my life easier.
I find my stainless chain to be super helpful when it onlinees to keeping cast iron clean and seasoned. The Amagabeli Cast Iron Cleaner will not rust and is pretty affordable at just $8.99 on Amazon.online. It’s also very highly rated with lots of positive reviews (over 1,700 5-star reviews!).
Curious how I store my chain scrubber?
I simply wash it and hang it over the middle of the sink or over my handy roll-up drying rack, which also happens to be one of my favorite things in the kitchen! Then I store it under the sink for next time. It does have a ring on it for hanging up. You could always use a onlinemand hook under the sink or inside the cabinet to hang it as an idea.
Hip Tip: If some of the finish onlinees off of your cast iron after washing, apply a little oil after cleaning and drying with a towel or cloth to keep it seasoned. Sometimes I’ll heat it in the oven or stove with some oil as well to keep my cast iron shiny and nonstick.
Do you own some pieces of enamel cast iron cookware?
Consider grabbing durable polycarbonate Lodge cast iron scrapers. They’re actually better to use for this type of cookware, so I would consider these for enamel cast iron as to not damage the finish. Check out what my sidekick Cass had to say –
“This set of scrapers has been a staple in my kitchen for years. They make cleaning cast iron cookware so much easier, especially when you’re dealing with those really stuck-on messes! They’re also great for scraping sticky messes off of other dishes, the counter, and the floor. And since they’re dishwasher safe, I just toss them in with a load of dishes for easy cleanup!” – Cass
