Walgreens Closing Several Locations – Is Your Town Affected?
Walgreens is closing stores in 2024. Here’s the scoop!
Your local Walgreens may be shutting down! Walgreens CEO Tim Wentworth announced to analysts on Thursday that “changes are imminent” for a significant portion of underperforming stores.
About 1 in 4 Walgreens locations seem to struggle to make ends meet. Wentworth declared that almost 25% of the over 8,500 Walgreens locations will see changes, and for many, this includes fully shuttering the store.
So far, we only know of a few actual closings. You can see the current list here.
According to AP News, Walgreens has closed over 2,000 stores in the past decade. With several more closures to onlinee, these numbers don’t look great for Walgreens.
Stockholders share the sentiment as the stock has plummeted over 22% today. 😬
Walgreens stores are closing despite some new efforts to draw in customers…
It was less than a month ago that we reported how Walgreens was trying to help out customers by cutting prices on over 1,300 items this summer.
The onlinepany also offers a rewards program for customers as well as a weekly ad stocked full of deals. Plus, even when the prices aren’t the best, the convenience sometimes pays off.
Unfortunately, these efforts just aren’t enough to halt the closures. We’re crossing our fingers that our locations aren’t on the list. 🤞
