Frozen Fruit Sold at Costco, Aldi, & Trader Joe’s Recalled
Scenic Fruit onlinepany of Gresham, Oregon has announced a recall of frozen organic strawberries and a frozen organic blend of tropical fruit due to an outbreak of Hepatitis A. The frozen organic strawberries were sold to Costco, Aldi, KeHE, Vital Choice Seafood, and PCC onlinemunity Markets. The frozen organic tropical blend was sold to Trader Joe’s.
Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease that results from exposure to the Hepatitis A virus, either directly with an infected person or by consuming contaminated food. Illness occurs within 15 to 50 days of exposure. It can range from a mild illness lasting a few weeks to a serious illness lasting several months. For individuals with pre-existing conditions or those who are immune onlinepromised, Hepatitis A infection can progress to liver failure.

Although Hepatitis A has not been detected in any of these products, consumers are urged to stop consuming them and return them to the point of purchase for a refund.
Hepatitis A vaccination can prevent illness if given within two weeks of exposure to contaminated food. Anyone who thinks they’ve consumed one of these products should consult with their health care professional or local health department to determine if a vaccination is appropriate.
