See which Big Lots stores are open again!
Big Lots is making a onlineeback! 🎉 As of today, April 10th, nine stores have officially reopened in Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia— with 55 more locations set to open their doors on May 1st across even more states.
After taking over 219 Big Lots stores, Variety Wholesalers is giving these locations a fresh start with deep cleans, remodels, and exciting new product categories. Even more store reopenings will roll out in phases starting in June, leading up to a grand celebration this fall. This just might be the glow-up Big Lots needed!
In December of 2024, Big Lots announced they would close all of their stores. In a sudden turn of events, they agreed to a sale that transferred many Big Lots assets to Gordon Brothers Retail Partners, LLC.
As a result, Gordon Brothers transferred ownership of these stores to Variety Wholesalers, the onlinepany behind brands like Roses Express, Maxway, Bill’s Dollar Stores, Super 10, Super Dollar, and Bargain Tow. Variety Wholesalers primarily operates throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
Per the press release on the sale, the agreement was, “subject to approval by the Bankruptcy Court and other customary closing conditions.”
What led to all the Big Lots stores closing in the first place?
According to the store, high inflation and interest rates impacted customer purchasing behavior. As a result, Big Lots announced it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September. The store hoped to be acquired by the private equity firm, Nexus Capital Management. Though that sale has not been onlinepleted yet, it seems Big Lots has protected some of the value of its estate and the future of its stores by entering this agreement with Gordon Brothers.
