Bidding Farewell to an Era: Best Buy to Part Ways with DVDs & Blu-ray Discs in 2024
Best Buy is saying goodbye to DVDs and Blu-rays in 2024! 📀
After being around for decades, a Best Buy staple will be leaving store shelves for good!
Beginning in early 2024, Best Buy will stop selling physical media including DVDs, Blu-rays and 4K UHD – both in-store and online. Thanks to streaming digital content, buying DVDs is no longer needed!
On Friday a Best Buy spokesperson in a statement to Variety, “To state the obvious, the way we watch movies and TV shows is much different today than it was decades ago.” He went on to say, “Making this change gives us more space and opportunity to bring customers new and innovative tech for them to explore, discover and enjoy.”
The change will leave many collectors scrambling to find new sources for their physical media collectibles. Fortunately, Walmart, Target, and Amazon will continue to offer DVDs, Blu-rays and 4K UHD – including the limited-run SteelBook editions that are so popular with collectors.
Although Best Buy will phase out sales of physical movies and TV shows, including their exclusive SteelBook offerings, they will continue to offer physical copies of video games. And, rest assured that you will still be able to purchase DVD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD titles from Best Buy throughout the 2023 holiday shopping season.
