The AMC Services class action lawsuit has reached a settlement.

AMC Networks, Inc. was accused of violating the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) by disclosing customer’s personally identifiable information, including rental history, without their consent. Though no wrongdoing has been confirmed, an $8.3 million settlement has been made in the recent class action lawsuit.

Customers may be eligible for a cash payment. Those approved will also be provided in-kind relief of a one-week digital subscription to the AMC+ service.

Customers of these six AMC Services may be entitled to a cash payout:

  •  AMC+
  • Shudder
  • Acorn TV
  • ALLBLK
  • SundanceNow
  • HDIVE

You are eligible if you are a United States citizen who was a registered customer from January 18, 2001, to and through, January 10, 2024, and also requested or obtained video content during this time.

If that’s you, you have until April 9, 2024, to file a claim. Here’s how to do it!

How to file a claim in the AMC Services class action lawsuit:

Those eligible for a payment were sent a notice to the account’s registered email address or their home address. This notice has a confirmation code that you can use to file a claim online. Check your email box for sender: [email protected].

If you have notice, do the following:

  • Head to the settlement website.
  • Enter your Notice ID and Confirmation Code
  • Follow the prompts to submit your information.

If you did not receive a notice, you may be able to file a paper claim using the downloadable form. We reonlinemend contacting the Settlement Administrator online or toll-free via phone at 888-871-5788 for more information or instructions.

Those who file a claim give up their right to sue AMC Networks, Inc. regarding this issue in the future.

You can also exclude yourself from the lawsuit or object to the claim.

If you disagree with the settlement, you have three other options:

  • Object to the claims – You still participate in the lawsuit but get a chance to express your concerns to the judge at the fairness hearing on May 16, 2024.
  • Exclude yourself from the settlement – You will not receive a settlement, but you retain the right to sue AMC Networks, Inc. regarding this issue in the future.
  • Do nothing – You will not receive a settlement and you give up your rights to sue AMC Networks, Inc. in the future.

You must object or exclude yourself via written letter by April 9, 2024. For mailing addresses and instructions, see the official notice or visit the settlement FAQ page.

AMC must take measures to prevent privacy breaches in the future.

The lawsuit is bringing about change that may help to better protect customer’s privacy.

Within 90 days of the final judgment, AMC Networks, Inc. must provide proof to the Class Counsel that they have suspended, removed, or modified the Meta Pixel and the Third-PartyTracking Technologies in a way that will prevent the release of any customer’s information.
