Here’s a list of easy tips and tricks on how to clean Uggs so they’ll stay looking great.

Uggs are super cute, but how are we supposed to clean them?

If you take good care of your suede Uggs they can last you for many years! Wearing them in snow and mud can get a little gunked up quickly. Taking the time to deep clean your Uggs at least twice a year will help their longevity and save money in the long run.

I have a pair of Ugg-inspired Dearfoam boots with a couple of stains, and I cleaned them using distilled white vinegar! Thanks to these helpful tips, my favorite cozy boots are looking great again.

Tip: Ugg offers a cleaning kit for $34.99, which includes a brush, cleaner & conditioner, scuff eraser, and protector. You can also buy the cleaner & conditioner separately for $14.95.

How to clean Ugg boots without a kit:

  • Use a 50/50 mix of water and distilled white vinegar with a microfiber cloth.
  • A suede eraser can help with spot-cleaning—just rub it on the area and brush off.
  • You can also use a suede cleaner; spray it on and wipe it with a microfiber cloth.
  • After cleaning, protecting your shoes with Scotchguard is the last step. Water will repel right off!

Note: Excessive water and harsh soaps or detergents are not reonlinemended for cleaning Uggs or suede.

Here’s what I did to give mine a refresh.

My suede Dearfoam boots had a stain on the top. Using the solution of half water and half vinegar, the stain came out! I am so pleased with how the stain came out using vinegar! To deodorize, I used a sprinkle of baking soda on the inside fur overnight. Finally, I sprayed them with Scotchguard to protect my suede booths further from water and stains!

On my daughter’s Uggs and on a pair of slippers I used some suede cleaner and got similar results.

Directions

1

Use a shoe brush to brush the dirt or dust off the boots.

2

Use the vinegar spray or suede cleaner and microfiber to wipe down the boots. Let them dry.

3

Use the brush again on the boots to fluff up the suede and restore the nap or texture.

4

To deodorize, sprinkle in a couple tablespoons or so of baking soda on the insides of each boot and let sit overnight. Use a vacuum to remove the baking soda on the inside of the boots.

5

Protect your boots by spraying Scotchguard and let them dry. Repeat this every few months.

Extra tips on how to clean Uggs or Ugg lookalike suede boots:

  • How to clean stains off of Uggs: If you’ve got stubborn grease or oil stains try using a little cornstarch on the area. Let it sit for a while and then dust or vacum it off. Don’t brush it in.
  • How to clean the inside of Uggs: Use a washcloth with water and a little dish soap to wipe the inside of the fur lining, applying pressure as needed. Rinse off the water and wipe the inside clean. Air dry.

  • How to deodorize the inside of Uggs: Sprinkle a little baking soda in each boot to remove odor. Let sit overnight and vacuum out.

You can also use an emery board on small spots or to “puff” up the suede after you use vinegar& water and they are dry.
I saved my sister in law’s brand new Uggs that she dropped salad oil on. I suggest if you have an oil stain use baking soda on it first and let it absorb as much as possible.
