Here’s how to easily create creepy-looking bloody candles that are perfect to display for Halloween!
This is a bloody Halloween craft worth trying! 🩸
Consider crafting melted crayon bloody candles for frugal and fun Halloween decor. They take a bit of practice at first, but then you’ll be melting red crayons on all the candles you can find! This is honestly such a fun little project to work on and the results are SO GOOD!
We spotted this fun Halloween hack via Instagram user CozyCornersInteriors and had to test it out! They turn out so pretty yet creepy and look great styled with other Halloween decor.
You may already have the items needed to make DIY bloody candles!
I used a few different heights of inexpensive cream pillar candles as well as taper candles too. Then just grab a couple of red crayons and get to work. I found the easiest way was to use the flame from the candle to melt the crayon. I did burn myself trying to use a lighter, so be very careful.
if you are clumsy like me use a long lighter, a long match, or the actual candle to melt the crayon. This may go without saying, but this craft is not for small kids.

PrintSupplies Needed
Directions
1
Remove the paper from the red crayon and light the candle you intend to work on. Protect the work surface with paper under the candle to catch any drippings.
2
Place the red crayon into the flame and move it to the edge of candle to let it drip down the sides. Rotate and keep moving along the side until evenly covered.
Extra tips for making DIY blood candles using crayons:
- Will a red candle work instead of a red crayon? Yes! That will work also. If you happen to have a red taper candle you could give that a try. Light the red candle and let the wax dip onto the white ones.
- If you wanted to try this technique on LED flameless candles I think that would work out great too. I prefer using that type of candle for safety reasons and will most likely not burn these and will save for decoration only.
- Don’t forget to remove the paper from the crayon first or it will start burning, LOL Ask me how I know. 🫣
- My favorite version of this project is the tall taper candles with the skeleton hand candle holder. So fun!
