Do You Use TikTok? You May Be Eligible for Payment from a Class Action Settlement
If you or your children have used the TikTok or Musical.ly apps, you could be entitled to money from a recent class-action lawsuit settlement.
A $92 million settlement is currently pending in the TikTok, Inc., Consumer Privacy Litigation. This lawsuit alleges the onlinepany violated federal and state laws by harvesting consumer data without consent, including facial and fingerprint scanning.
TikTok denies the allegations, but on November 15th, a notice was posted in the app directing users to visit this website for more information about the settlement.
To be eligible for a payment, you must have used the TikTok or Musical.ly app before September 30th, 2021. If you’re the parent of a minor child who is eligible, you may file a claim for them too. The deadline to submit a claim form is March 1st, 2022.
Because the lawsuit alleges that TikTok broke the Illinois biometric privacy law, you may be entitled to up to six times the payment amount if you live in the state of Illinois.
Claims can be submitted electronically here or by printing a form and mailing it in.
Individual payout amounts will depend on the number of people submitting a claim. You can choose to receive your payment via PayPal, Venmo, a virtual prepaid card, or a physical check mailed to your address.
