   We are going to Alaska in July with my in-laws. We have three kids ages 5,7, and 9. I’m hoping it will be fun for them. It’s going to be freezing so they will only be able to use indoor pools right? Can anyone tell me?

  It depends on where you’re going. I used to live in Southeast Alaska, and in the summers we sometimes would wear shorts. I don’t know about swimming outside, but definitely not freezing.

  We went a few years ago in mid-June. It won’t be freezing but probably too cold to swim. The pools were filled and ready on our cruise but I rarely saw anyone in them. Not a lot for kids that age but they did have some ranger type activities where they could talk to the park Rangers about the animal life, etc. Glaciers are amazing and I watched them for hours but I could see it getting old real quick for the kids. The ships seem to be much more laid back and peaceful on the Alaska cruises. There are kids but no rowdy crowds of kids or adults. Fewer activities too. This kinda sounds like a downer post 🙂 but we LOVED our Alaskan cruise. It was just a different vibe than others we have done. There is ALWAYS something to look at. It’s nice to just sit and play a board game or read and watch the beautiful scenery go by. We were never in a rush to finish dinner to go get a seat at the show, for example. Just peaceful 🙂

  We went to Juneau last July (not on a cruise) and it was in the low 60s and cloudy/rainy every single day. My kids wouldn’t have gone swimming unless the water was heated. We wore fleece sweatshirts, raincoats and boots the entire time.

  Went several years ago. Many kids and adults were swimming. Weather was wonderful.
