Don’t toss empty Tide pod containers, make easy DIY decorations with them!

You can easily turn a bright orange laundry pod container into a jack-o-lantern and display a host of them at Halloween using LED tea lights or fairy lights so they will look spooky at night! These plastic laundry pod containers have the perfect round pumpkin shape.

I love DIY Halloween decorations and even turned a green Gain laundry pod container into a witch with a hat!

These DIY Halloween decorations are fun and inexpensive to make using supplies you may already have on hand! I love how you can group them together, plus these pumpkins will last so much longer than carving real ones.

Tips for laundry pod container pumpkins and DIY Halloween decorations:

  • Getting the label off of the empty laundry pod containers will be the toughest part, but don’t be discouraged! I soaked mine in hot soapy water first, and then the Tide labels actually came off pretty easily.
  • That said, the green Gain label was much more difficult to remove. To get that off, I laid it on the counter, applied a mixture of Goo Gone and baking soda, and let it soak. I then scraped it off using a window scraper tool. Not gonna lie, it was tedious! 😂 If you have tips, share them in the onlinements please.
  • For inspiration, I just Googled “jack-o-lantern faces” and “witch faces” and then tried my best to copy similar ones. Don’t laugh I am not an artist LOL! This is where you can get creative and have the kids make their own DIY Halloween decorations.

Directions

1

Soak off the product labels in the sink using hot soapy water. Use a knife to carefully lift starting at one edge of the label and then peel it off. The top label on the lid is a little trickier and may need some adhesive remover like Goo Gone

2

Once the container is dry, draw a face on the front using a sharpie, or cut out shapes using adhesive vinyl.

3

Add a tea light inside and display at Halloween!

These are so cute! When I was a preschool teacher I used to have the kids bring in an empty (rinsed out) milk carton with lid. I would put orange paint inside and put the lid back on and let them shake it until the paint coated the inside. Then I would put them up overnight with the lid off to dry. Another day we would add the face to the outside and secure the lid back on. (The handle goes in the back so it isn’t seen when done)

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh I love that! Teachers have the best ideas 🙌💕🎃 Thanks for sharing Susan!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh good! Glad you also love this. Thanks so much!

  15. Lunafalls

To remove the labels, try directing the heat from a blow dryer on them for a couple minutes. Usually the label will peel right off. Easier than soaking. 🙂 If any little bits of adhesive remain on the container, just tap at them with the sticky side of the label you peeled off.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks so much for that suggestion! I’ll give it a try with mine! 🙌

  16. Marie

So clever and perfect timing. I just happen to be at the end of my container and I’m going to make a pumpkin. Love this!!

    • Trish (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks, Marie! So awesome that you just finished using yours up so you can make this! Enjoy! ❤️

  17. Ihearthip

Wow. Now my ALL container can be a ghost! Perfect! Thanks for this great idea.

    • Lina

Oh glad you enjoyed this idea!! And yes that sounds perfect 🤍

  18. Patricia Alf

Wow, getting the labels off the containers was tough! I tried the hairdryer, hot water and Dawn, acetone, Goo Gone, razor blades. I finally used my heat gun to loosen the adhesive and then finished off with Goof Off.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh wow! Sorry to hear how difficult they were to remove! Thanks for sharing what finally worked for you! ❤️
