Cheese Advent Calendar

This Advent calendar is cheesy in all the right ways! 🧀😍

In 2016, food blogger Annem Hobson of So Wrong It’s Nom created a handmade prototype for a cheese-filled Advent calendar that garnered a lot of excitement on social media.

The following year, she partnered with Norseland, Ilchester (owners of popular cheese brands such as Applewood, Mexicana and Jarlsberg) to mass-produce the calendar and sell it in grocery stores across the U.K.

Cheese from an Advent calendar

Last year, the Ilchester Cheese Advent Calendar found its way to the U.S., where it landed on the shelves of roughly 250 Target stores. And rumor has it that this year it will be sold at Targets nationwide and will also be available at grocers like Supervalu, Sprouts, Schnucks, Meijer, Jewel, Lidl, and Publix!

We can expect to see this Advent calendar hitting the shelves of U.S. retailers in November, where it’s expected to retail for around $20.

Wine with cheese and crackers

In the past, the Ilchester Cheese Advent calendar has featured 24 individually wrapped cheeses with 5 different varieties including Jarlesberg, Applewood, Mature Cheddar, Red Leicester, and Wensleydale with cranberries. While it does need to be refrigerated, the calendar’s ‘book style’ packaging allows one half of it to be torn off after the initial 12 days to minimize the amount of fridge space required.

ALDI’s Wine & Cheese Advent Calendars are back starting November 6th!

Only 5 different cheeses? Oof and I thought the Aldi one was a bit lame for only having 8.

Agreed. Glad I missed out last year. Won’t even look this year knowing that.

I agree, I’d rather have 12 or 24 different cheeses that I may or may not like but at least get to try. There are at least 10 different types of cheddar that I can think of so onlineing up with 24 couldn’t be that hard.

Yeah, I have definitely decided on death by cheese, so this one excites me. But the lack of variety makes it feel less special. Even if there were a couple of stinkers, it would be fun to try more types.

Does anyone know what date these calendars will be sold in November? I read somewhere in late November, but one Target store told me that they are already sold out🤷‍♀️ while other Targets near me told me that they have no idea what I am talking about. I missed out on the ALDI Cheese Calendars and didn’t want to miss out on this one too. Any information that anyone can pass along would be great. Thanks!

Look for the cheese advent calendar at the deli counter. It’s refrigerated cheese; I had been looking for it in the seasonal area near the shelf stable Hickory Farms cheeses. And, you might have to ask for it. At my Target, it hadn’t been put out yet.
