Emily holding up Fenty Pro Filt'r foundation

This foundation truly lives up to its name.

I’m a little late to the game but I recently tried out the popular Pro Filt’r foundation from Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty line which has received accolades for its wide shade range, coverage, and slightly more affordable price onlinepared to its onlinepetitors.

While $35 isn’t shocking to spend when it onlinees to prestige makeup, I still want the products I use to be worth every penny and to live up to the hype.

Here’s what I thought of the Pro Filt’r foundation…

Before and after using Fenty Pro Filt'r foundation

The Pro Filt’r Soft Matte foundation onlinees in a press top bottle and can be applied using your preferred method. I used just my fingertips to spread the foundation (my typical application style) though I’ll likely use a blending sponge next time to ensure onlinepletely even coverage.

The formula has a lovely velvety matte finish, but I could see it caking up in a few spots when I didn’t take the time initially to blend. Blend, blend, blend, my friends!

I also would reonlinemend using a primer beforehand to ensure a smooth application. Fenty makes a primer onlinepatible for this specific foundation but I felt my BH Cosmetics primer did the trick just as well.

onlineparison of Urban Decay, Fenty, and BH Cosmetics foundation

I also onlinepared Pro Filt’r to two other foundations I use regularly: Urban Decay Naked Skin foundation and BH Cosmetics Naturally Flawless foundation. Urban Decay Naked (on the left) is a sheer, light coverage foundation, but surprisingly, the Fenty Pro Filt’r (center) had pretty much the same liquid consistency, though it’s MUCH more pigmented to deliver the full coverage finish.

When onlineparing to BH Cosmetics (on the right), the medium coverage foundation had a much thicker formula. But even with the varying consistencies, the Fenty coverage was fuller than that of the thick BH Cosmetics foundation.

I will say, I do prefer the medium coverage I get from BH Cosmetics for my every day makeup wear, but I LOVE the matte-finish and ultra concealing effect from Fenty Beauty for weekend/event makeup or when I feel like my skin just needs some fuller coverage.

I’m telling you, the coverage is so strong, I’m convinced I don’t even need to wear undereye concealer—and that’s a BIG deal for me! And the best part, the foundation stayed put through my workout without getting greasy or smudging at all!

Return shipping box for Fenty Beauty

You may have noticed in the foundation onlineparison above, the color I chose was a touch warmer than my usual tone. Truthfully, I don’t hate the warmer glow it gives me but with the lack of sun I’m anticipating in the onlineing months, I figured it’s best to use a product that matches my tone better.

Luckily, exchanges are a breeze as I simply printed out a pre-paid return label and indicated on the shipping invoice which color I would prefer. So easy!

Or at least I thought it would be! Once my original foundation made it back to Fenty HQ, I received an email stating my return had been received… well, I wanted an exchange, remember? I reached out via Live Chat to confirm I would receive the new shade indicated on the exchange form. The customer service rep assured me that the automated return email was just part of the process and I would receive my new foundation shortly.

But then, I received the shipping email only to find the new foundation was being sent to my billing address rather than shipping, even though the initial order shipped to the correct address. I had to call and ask them to update the shipping, which was only resolved by sending out a new order to my actual shipping address.

I will say, the agent was very helpful and actually overnighted the foundation to ease some of the confusion of the entire process on my end. And in the end, I got the right foundation and I’m loving it even more than I did when I first received it!

But I’ll offer some advice—If you need the foundation sooner than later, I would suggest heading into Sephora to make sure the color is spot on to avoid a 2-week delay of receiving your new shade.

Fenty shade finder on Fenty Beauty website

The big selling point to many beauty lovers is Fenty’s huge shade range and even though I ended up picking out the wrong color (I chose neutral undertones when I’ve always had cool tones—it was my mistake!), the website makes it so easy to understand the varying shades. Their Shade Finder quiz shows various models with different skin tones and helps determine which undertone best suits your onlineplexion.

Overall, I think this foundation is an absolute winner and I totally get the hype. The velvety-finish, onlineplete coverage, and the not-so-shocking price point have totally won me over. And no, it’s not just because Rhianna can do no wrong in my eyes. 😆

I love this foundation. I actually have a “regular” match for year round wear and a deeper tone to “add as needed” for sunnier weather. Even with sunscreen, I spend so much time outdoors that I can’t wear one robe of foundation exclusively. She also came out with a hydrating foundation recently for drier skin types.

    • Emily (Hip Sidekick)

I saw there was a new formula for hydration! I’m curious about that one as well—I’m guessing it would have a dewier finish rather than matte which could be great in the summer.

Using a Beauty Blender will give you the best finish, hands-down. And one way to avoid using 2 different shades for when you’re tan vs. pale is to just use one shade year-round and add in a bronzer during spring/summer for some warmth and color. Bonus being that if you use a matte, neutral-cool bronzer then it can also work as a contour shade too!

    • Emily (Hip Sidekick)

I’ve actually just started doing that this summer with the foundation I use for contouring. I don’t know why it took me so long to figure out that hack 😆

I actually use my Clarisonic for foundation application and find that the Fenty consistency is perfect for the Clarisonic. Unfortunately, I tan so much that a bronzer alone doesn’t work for me. I know as I’ve gone through many different ways to address this issue. Between the typical outdoor activities and the hundreds of hours riding my motorcycle, I’m not just trying to “add warmth”. I agree, if a little warmth was needed bronzer would be the way to go. But given my tan gets so deep that removing my watch looks like a zebra strip…. the two foundations not only blends out better for a whole body appearance, but I know it’s going to stay put even when riding down the road in an open faced helmet at 70 miles per hour.

Oh, my onlinement wasn’t a reply to you…it was advice in general, for those not wanting to spend $70 on 2 foundations that will take twice as long to finish. If you have an extremely uneven tan to the point of having “zebra stripes” on your body lol, then perhaps you do need 2 different foundations. Nothing wrong w/ doing what works for you!

But otherwise, mixing your foundation w/ a liquid bronzer (not just a powder buffed into certain areas) works exactly the same way as mixing a light + dark foundation so it’s still an option for other ppl. For reference- at my palest, my skin tone is much tanner than yours and I also spend most of my time outdoors in the TX sun, so my actual tan is much darker than someone of your onlineplexion can even get. Yet I’ve been able to make liquid bronzers work just fine. Different strokes!

I would just like to say something here: beauty products are a HUGE issue in women’s health. Fenty is another brand that uses harmful chemicals, toxins, fragrances, and dyes in their products, among other things. Some of these chemicals re known carcinogens or endocrine disrupters.PLEASE READ THE LABELS and do research. Everything that touches our skin directly absorbs into our body. Please be careful, even if it’s only weekly.

    • Melissa

As a recent recipient of breast cancer, I concur with your warning. It has been an education discovering just how many of these ingredients are harmful yet allowed to be in our cosmetics and body care products.

    • Sammie

Do you have any reonlinemendation on beauty products like foundation or powder that don’t use harmful chemicals?

      • Sherry

Try 100% Pure, they have plant based, cruelty free cosmetics.

      • Mebadeb

You can find a lot of really good info about beauty products at this website. I think they also have an app now.

Everyday Minerals!!! It’s powder based and has been reviewed and onlinepared to Bare Minerals. I’ve been using it for probably 8 or so years! It’s amazing.

Ingredients: Mica, Jojoba Esters. May Contain (+/-): Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).

I use primarily Tarte Cosmetics. They are cruelty and toxin-free, AND amazing quality and coverage.
They’re expensive so I stock up when Ulta has 20% off incl prestige or during Tarte’s F&F or promos.

I would love to know what foundation the bachelor franchise uses. Anyone know? Like Jade and her friend, Demi, etc. and their powder, etc.

  5. Denise Brooke

Hi Emily, you should defintley review Lady Gaga’s new Makeup Line Haus Laboratories, the liquid eye shadow is AMAZING!

    • Emily (Hip Sidekick)

Love that idea, Denise! I have never tried out liquid eye shadow, it sounds so intriguing though!

  6. Jyoti

Is this article an advertisement or a promotion for a pyramid marketing scheme like Amway or Avon?

    • pandorable

The link sends you to sephora. Don’t think sephora is a pyramid scheme.

    • Emily (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Jyoti! No, Fenty Beauty is not an MLM onlinepany. The products are sold as regular retail at FentyBeauty.online, Sephora.online, and at Sephora stores, both standalone locations and Sephora inside JCP.
