Recently, I took a trip with my sister and our families to Oregon and left Bryn in charge of finding our housing aconlinemodations. She found a great house to occupy all of us, but we were blown away at the amenities that came with our Airbnb vacation rental.

The onlinemunity where we stayed in Sunriver, Oregon had tons of fun features in the neighborhood like dedicated biking trails, a playground, multiple onlinemunity swimming pools, sports courts, and even a water park! Better yet, access to them was free due to renting this property! Plus, our house had a hot tub, and provided free bikes for the family. 🙌

The kids absolutely loved it, and it saved us a ton of money that would have normally been spent on admission fees to a water park, bike rental fees etc. What great perks!

My family has been vacationing in Sunriver Oregon every summer for the past 25 years. Absolutely LOVE it there!!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes, it was SOOOO much fun! We loved it!

    • generainytakalo

Nothing beats SunRiver in the summer….except “barely” off season (like September) when you still get all the amenities (and dry weather) but 2/1 pricing! We love to go every October on “State Inservice Day” weekend. SHARC outside pool is closed, BUT there are no crowds.

    • Melissa

      Oh Sunriver is the best!

  2. K

Anyone else still prefer hotels bc they clean up the room for you every morning? I guess I’m just more lazy than others are when I’m on vacation. 😄

    • Shannon

Yeah same here. My kids also go crazy for the “free” breakfast which they only eat cereal and yogurt at anyway lol.

  3. Michael

I stayed at an Airbnb in Pismo, CA once with my boyfriend. Apparently, local residents (I’m unsure if all) get a special driving pass that allows them to drive on the beach for free. Our host provided it to us for use. Pismo is one of only two places in CA where you’re allowed to drive literally on the sand next to the waves. It was an awesome experience, even if we did get stuck!

  4. Susan

Only hotels for me. The hidden camera incidents in the rental houses did it for me.

    • Kathleen

Unfortunately hotels can also have hidden cameras 🙁

  5. Jeremiah2911

What onlinemunity is this in Sunriver?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

How fun! Thanks for the suggestion!

  6. Ivan

Airbnb fees can be crazy sometimes. Not to mention cleaning fees. But we love staying in something large than a hotel room and use Airbnb a lot.

  7. Ivan

    Haha…what the heck? 🙂

  8. Emily

I’d be afraid of wiggling too much in my sleep and falling out of the treehouse bed. Lol. Not that I have fallen out of bed since I was a kid, but yikes!

    • Ella

I was thinking we’d get eaten alive by mosquitos on that treehouse sleeping porch!

  9. Alyssa

I live really close to Buena Vista! BEAUTIFUL area. And I don’t drink beer, but the food at Eddyline brewery is the best!

  10. Vero

The treehouse looks awesome I have a feeling mosquitos would attack people in their sleep. 😕
    It’s a nice thought tho!

  11. KeriB

We are trying Airbnb for the first time this fall when we travel to England. I’m so excited to have separate bedrooms and a washer/ dryer. Ours don’t look quite as cool as the ones you feature though!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

I always love staying at Airbnbs even if they aren’t as cool as those! Just having the space of a house and the washer/dryer like you said is great! Enjoy your trip, KeriB!

  12. Cheryl

Where did you stay in Sunriver? We have done a few family reunions there.

  13. me

can you post the link for the one that you stayed in? please

  14. Laura

We have traveled on AIRBNB and been hosts for 2 years. It’s honestly changed our lives! Sometimes the news gives it a bad rap, but its opened up many doors for us (literally!)

  15. Sam

We stayed at an apartment I found on Airbnb in Barcelona in June. It was 3 floors, walking distance to stores, and even had a roof top patio. So cool! It was $200 a night, for 5 of us all to have our own rooms!

    • Amy Forgey

Wow! Do you mind posting a link?

    • Jen

That’s awesome! I’m going there the end of October. Do you have the link for the apartment? Thanks!

  16. Toni2760

My daughter found an Airbnb in a suburb of Atlanta that included a huge game room with tons of vintage games such as Pacman and Skeeball. She also found a teepee on a farm and my 9 year old grandson loved both!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Whoa! The teepee founds so fun and unique, Toni2760!

  17. Thea

I live in Bend! Sunriver is great! The pool offers discounts to locals every Sunday! Half price with a local ID!

  18. Abby

I’m in the middle on Airbnb. We’ve stayed in a couple and had a great experience, but I feel like a lot of their fees have gotten outrageous. Cleaning fees that cost as much as a hotel room and booking fees of $75 (on some of the properties) I think staying with a group and splitting the cost can be a great way to travel cheaper, but we’ve gone back to staying at hotels that have suites for much less than most of the Airbnb rentals I find, plus the free breakfast and not having to clean everything up and take out your own trash (even though paying a cleaning fee). I guess for me it depends on the situation and how much space we are needing!

  19. Tina

Has anyone stay in an Airbnb in Hawaii that you could reonlinemend?

  20. D

Living in the midst of air bnbs is ruining my neighborhood. People are loud and party all night and don’t consider that the homes around them still have to go to work. When did onlinemercial ventures beonlinee okay in residential areas?

    • C

@D you could bring it up with your local council (if you live around homes and they are renting them vs living in them- even if they are renting on an annual basis, there are additional taxes landlords have to pay; and if they’re violating these tax laws by evading the taxes, they can get punished via fines… there are also generally other safety laws if someone is renting out their home as well). Another big problem with Airbnb’s is that you can also have landlords that have apartment buildings exclusively for Airbnb (they make more money, paid via a platform, can discriminate however they want, etc), driving up the cost of living in some areas and reducing the amount of affordable housing available. I’ve stayed in Airbnb’s but usually they set out rules including quiet hours – but that’s mainly in apartments. I’ve stayed in quite a few and they were great. Although some aren’t so great- one had some sort of alarm system and the host I think was definitely watching (not in the bedroom or bathroom but out in the living room, hallways, kitchen) bc there were monitor lights out there and they would start flashing when I would move around in those areas and then it would stop when I think they remotely turned it off (albeit I was in a country with a high crime rate and my guess would be that they had breakins before or something when no one was there – but still weird)… also while generally I find them cleaner than hotels, I have found that a few I stayed in weren’t very clean- something I might expect from couch surfing (staying for free), but definitely not a place you’re paying for… also usually I stay in a private room in a home vs the whole home and one place I stayed they had small kids … while the parents had a room on the main floor, the small kids room was on the second floor by the private rooms! And despite having quiet hours 10-10, their small kids woke up very early and would scream at the top of their lungs (unattended by the parents)! How they had good ratings is beyond me… not to mention if I had kids, I wouldn’t have them staying next to strangers, especially with a bedroom on a different floor than mine!

We just stayed in a rental in Sevierville, TN and it was amazing! It was located on a 93 acre farm with multiple outdoor spaces that included a fire pit! The homeowner thought of everything we would need to make the stay perfect! I love renting from individuals and supporting them!

This is my first year to have an Airbnb located in Teton Valley, Idaho with access to Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Hole, WY. I have stayed in many Airbnb’s in Europe, so I knew what was helpful to travelers. In my opinion you get the most benefit from an Airbnb when the owner is on site, or is nearby and can personally greet you and help you with any questions you might have. The benefit for me in hosting an Airbnb is the awesome people I have met this summer and the extra inonlinee. The benefits I have offered to guests, not generally available at hotels, is a pond in the back yard for fishing or water play, a view of the Tetons, wide open spaces, a beautiful night sky with no light pollution, lots of travel information including hikes, wildlife siting locations and restaurants, a fully functional kitchen and laundry room. Before booking an Airbnb, READ THE REVIEWS. Like hotels, B&B’s, VRBO or Airbnb’s , they can be spotlessly clean, or just plain gross.

I haven’t stayed at an Airbnb yet but I’m seriously considering one in January-February. My daughter has never seen snow but I think a ski resort would be expensive, neither of us really want to ski and I’d like to be within shuttle/Uber distance to the airport since I’ve never driven in snow. An Airbnb would possibly give us a private yard for snow men/snow angels/snow forts/snow balls and keep hot cocoa a few steps away. I’m hesitant to Airbnb just because I’ve stayed in 4-4.5 star resorts that didn’t feel quite clean enough for me and I’m super nervous about being in a strange town and being stuck with mold or bugs. The reviews here have been good so far. Anyone have a dirty/buggy/moldy experience?

    • Susan

The Airbnb site will tell you how many times the word “clean” has been mentioned by guest reviews. It would probably be best for you to look with locations where the host has a designation as a “Super Host”.

  24. Claudia

Omg, it’s beautiful, I would love to rent that house. If you can split it, it’s very affordable…great price! Unfortunately, my siblings are not the greatest when it onlinees to splitting. We rented a home last year and my husband and I got stuck with half the bill even though it was supposed to be split 4 ways. Anyone want to trade families, lol.

  25. shop4mybabies

I feel like AIRBNB’s that would fit my large family are only inexpensive or affordable if you share with another family. I love staying at the Hyatt, my kids love room service, and I love that someone else cleans it up for me. If i were traveling with another group of family members, would definitely consider this option

We just stayed in a townhouse property in Big Sky for our Yellowstone/Grand Tetons vacation(40 minutes to West Yellowstone entrance. It too was a Vacasa property. Great property amazing sillouette of the mountains at night while using outdoor private Jacuzzi nightly.

Love hearing the positive responses about AIRBNB’s! Does anyone know about renting an AIRBNB for a solo traveler domestically? Is it worth it or should I just stay with a hotel?

  28. Kara

We’re going to Sunriver Resort for the first time later this month! Rented a house with all the perks our little family needs. Can’t wait to get away for a bit and lounge by the pool!!!

  29. Carla Tippets

Can you post the link for the sunriver place, I’ve been looking for a place to stay there
