On Saturday, May 11th, the National Association of Letter Carriers will be hosting their annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive!

Stamp Out Hunger is the largest one-day food drive in the nation and will help feed millions of families in all 50 states! This is a perfect time for you to go through your stockpile and donate as many non-perishable and unexpired food items as possible to support this cause. ❤️

HIP TIP: Keep an eye on your mailbox as you may receive a bag to fill with your donation items.

The top requested non-perishable food items are cereal, pasta, spaghetti sauce, rice, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meals, peanut butter, macaroni & cheese, canned protein (tuna, chicken and turkey), and beans. You can also donate unopened baby food or formula.

Be sure to leave items at your mailbox on May 11th. Your letter carrier will pick up your items and deliver them to local food banks or pantries.

I got my bag!! I’ve got canned meats and peanut butter all set up!!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Yay! That’s SO great to hear, Diana!

  2. Diana

I bought some chili… just curious but I debated on getting with or without beans. What do you think is best?

    • jackie

I personally hate beans so I’d say without but I don’t think it makes much of a difference.

    • Mima

With, beans have excellent nutritional value.

  3. Luna

Please give ideas how to let the neighborhood pets not onlinee put their faces in or around the bags . Won’t other animals tear it open etc…? Doing it for the first time here. Tia

    • jenb

Leave out cans of food 🙂

      • Diana

Animals can’t get to the cans.

    • Diana

Maybe try stapling the bag closed?

    • Bargain Shopper

      Hi Luna,
I have animal issues also. I put a note on my mailbox Food on front door inside screen. Then I hang the bag on my door knob. It’s worked so far.

    • Dee

Try a small cardboard box and tape the bag on top of it?

    • todd

You could maybe hang it from your door knob.

Would donating cooking oil be good?

    • Juma

I wouldn’t reonlinemend donating cooking oil due to this is is very messy if it gets hole /punctured or it get crushed by all the cans being tossed on the piles.

      • Laurie

I think anything donated is a good thing. Of course, healthy items first. I donate everything, down to dryer sheets.

    • nimzo

On the postcard I got it actually suggests canola oil as an item to donate.

  5. Donna

I got a postcard in my mailbox regarding this and here’s what it says-“Donate items such as pasta, cereal, oatmeal canola oil, peanut butter, and canned goods including beans, fruit, vegetables, soup, tuna in water, meat and sauce. Avoid glass containers.” Hope that helps 🙂

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks so much for sharing those details with us, Donna! Super helpful!

  6. Jennifer

If it fits in the mailbox you can place inside with the flag up. I do this bc of animals and weather.

  7. Rhonda

Please no glass! We can usually hear when we pick it up if somebody has put some inside their bag but inevitably we miss some and sometimes they break. If the weather is going to be bad Sat in your area just leave it out sometime this week. We picked up some last Sat. Some people leave town for mother’s day too and donate early. Thanks everyone!

    • Nicole

Thanks for doing it too! I love my postal carriers, and I don’t think you all get enough credit…so thank you all for all the hard work you do too!!!! 🙂

In our local newspaper it also said toothpaste/ tooth brushes/ shampoo etc are needed. A great time to donate some of that free toothpaste we’ve been getting lately, thanks to Hip@Save!
