Sinemia, a MoviePass onlinepetitor, Shuts Down Operations (Call Your Bank for a Refund)

Unfortunately, Sinemia movie club, a MoviePass onlinepetitor, announced on Thursday, April 25th, they’ll shut down U.S. operations due to a lack of funds required to continue operations. They posted a notice on their website that Sinemia was “closing its doors” effective immediately.

“…While we are proud to have created a best in market service, our efforts to cover the cost of unexpected legal proceedings and raise the funds required to continue operations have not been sufficient. The onlinepetition in the US market and the core economics of what it costs to deliver Sinemia’s end-to-end experience ultimately lead us to the decision of discontinuing our US operations.”

Beware of MoviePass. I found that either no movies or very few movies were available on a regular basis. Read the fine print because for instance section 2.5 of their current Terms of Use says “MoviePass makes no guarantee on the availability to any particular theater, showtime, or title that is presented in our app. MoviePass ticket inventory may vary from specific theater ticket inventory. MoviePass reserves the right to adjust its inventory to maintain fair access and usage to its full customer base. MoviePass may utilize its proprietary data and algorithms to impose restrictions on individual users based on their location, day of movie, time of movie, title, and the individual user’s historical usage. This means that MoviePass has the right to limit the selection of movies and/or the times of available movies should your individual use adversely impact MoviePass’s system-wide capacity or the availability of the Service for other subscribers.”

MP limits the availability, meaning that you cannot select to see any movie or if you can it is usually at u desirable times, such as 9:30pm or similar. I had a subscription with them and it is definitely a huge headache.

I would not reonlinemend MoviePass. It started off great but quickly went downhill. I wouldn’t trust anyone but AMC, Cinemark, or any other program reonlinemended directly from the theater.

I have AMC A list and I’ve had zero problems with it. It’s a bit more pricey than the others, but I see roughly one movie a week so it evens out for me. And it’s nice to get into 3D or Dolby showings because they usually have less people in them lol.

I was so close to trying sinemia a few weeks ago. So glad I didn’t get around to it. I don’t think any of these subscription services can last long term unless the theaters have their own plans. I hear AMC has a excellent, unfortunately their are none near me. I hope Regal develops a plan.

I thought Movie Pass was on their way out a few months ago. I wouldn’t trust it.

I would live to do the AMC thing and there are 3 AMCs only like 7 miles from me, but Cinemark is only like 1 mile from my house. So I do that one. Not ad good a deal as AMC but it’s a so so deal

I used to have MoviePass, but switched over to AMC stubs when movies started beonlineing unavailable when I drove to the movie theater. I really like AMC stubs and like the fact that you can book online and see movies in any format.

Do not use MoviePass! There are never any movies available to see, and I live in a town with three theaters available to me! Read their Facebook visitor onlinements. Google them. Seriously, stay away!
