I was at Lowes yesterday and one of the associates told me they are getting a new CEO (he’s onlineing from Home Depot) and that the military discount is going to be discontinued. Has anyone else heard anything about this? I would be very dissapointed to see that happen.

    • Lisa

Well, I hope you are wrong. If the new CEO is onlineing from Home Depot, well, they offer the same discount.
Also, if you are at Lowe’s, note the employees wearing the camo vests as they are employees who have served. Lowe’s is phenomenal at supporting our servicemembers.

    • Kacie

I hope not! That’s the only reason I shop at Lowe’s! HomeDepot I seem to get the kids who don’t know what a Veteran ID is.

  2. Michele

Does anyone know if these will thrive in a window box?

    • Dee

These flowers (the ones shown are marigolds) should work fine in a window box as long as you have good soil, fertilizer, drainage and sun! Be sure to also check the back of the garden centers at Lowe’s – they usually have rolling racks of clearance flowers/plants – I tend to buy as many annuals that way that need some TLC but I’m willing to nurse them back to health and they end up being pretty. At the end of the season, the annuals die and I’m not out too much cash!

The current CEO started with Lowe’s last July and was previously the CEO of JCPenney, and formerly a corporate executive at Home Depot from 2002-2014. He’s been making sweeping changes in Lowe’s with one of the latest being the elimination of store level Loss Prevention and Safety managers effective February 2nd of this year. He’s brought with him other former execs from Home Depot and is trying to make Lowe’s a HD clone. Store morale is low and the CEO has no problems in his weekly store podcasts announcing the elimination of jobs yet saying God Bless. Don’t think we need 2 Home Depot’s.

    • Ok

I found this in an article – “Most employees at the closing stores will be offered the chance to work at another location nearby, with the majority of the outlets set to close within 10 miles of another Lowe’s store, the retailer said.”

I saw the same 27 gallon totes for 6.99 regular price at my Costco a couple days ago.
On a different note I can’t believe Lowe’s hired a previous big shot of Home Depot. I didn’t think Lowe’s was doing that bad.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Great find, Vera! We’ll have to keep an eye out for those in our Costco stores too! Thanks for the heads up!

  5. Jeff

Not sure if this is true… I heard that the reason Home Depot and Lowe’s are always built in close proximity to each other is that the “owners” of Home Depot and Lowe’s are ex-spouses and that part of the divorce settlement is that wherever Home Depot builds a store, there must be a onlineparable space available for Lowe’s to go in.
    LOL. Anyone hear of this?

    • Tonya

There is a Lowe’s in the town I live in. The nearest Home Depot is at least 45 minutes away.
