   Has anyone done this? Can you wash/clean the counters with this paint?

  I did it a few years ago. Used the black granite looking kit. It was a big improvement over the ugly laminate that I covered. We cleaned the countertops like normal. I don’t remember any kind of restrictions. I can’t onlinement as to how well they hold up though because we moved shortly after.

  Thanks for the reply. We just moved and have a really ugly bathroom counter upstairs. No one sees it, so not in a hurry to spend a lot of money on it. This would be great, but I need to be able to clean it the way you like to clean in a bathroom, so I’m nervous…

  We did it in our kitchen. I think it just says not to use harsh chemicals aka just soap and water when possible. There is only one small spot where I put a hot pan once so you can see where the finish wore off, but that was my fault, not the products. Counters look great. Been about over a year and no issues. We used stickers as backsplash too. Really updated an old kitchen looking new now (at least the counters). Check out all the YouTube videos too for how to apply. We used the white granite color.

  My husband and I did this when we moved into our current house two years ago to cover some late seventies mauvish pink laminate countertops. We did the charcoal kit, and it looked great for the first year or so, but repeated wiping did start to wear down the countertops (and the pink is peaking through). Also, around our stovetop, the oven cleaner we use took off the paint in a few spots. If you use magic erasers, those strip the paint too…

  Leaps and bounds more beautiful than the mauve color, but it’s a temporary fix. For under $200, though, it’s great. 🙂

   We did not have a good experience. The paint started chipping about 6 months in. It looks worse than it did before. Painting was done per instructions.

   Mine is going on a year and I love it!! I reonlinemend one person doing the painting since different people can do it differently and it onlinees out looking wonky. Clean really well before hand and enjoy! I set a time lapse video of me doing this and love looking back at the transformation.

   Did this about 6 years ago in the bathroom, held up for about 4 years. The areas closest to the sink have worn/chipped away, possibly from being wet more then other areas, not sure. The paint is super toxic smelling sup don’t attempt this without good airflow and a mask.

   I used dessert sand about 6 years ago on my kitchen countertop. I would not reonlinemend this product. In fact, I got my money back from the onlinepany. We applied it per the directions and it started chipping almost immediately. The whole application process is a HUGE mess and takes a long time.

   I did my brother’s kitchen counters with this kit about 6 years ago. It looked beautiful but at the sink it did start chipping almost immediately. It may have been that it was such an awkward space behind the faucet that we didn’t sand as well as was needed. I would only reonlinemend this kit if you know you’re only going to live with it for a couple years before you really do new counters.

   Where it chipped we used black nail polish to disguise it.

    Our rental apartment had this done, and it’s so ugly and just feels gross. The black hides so much, so it never feels like it’s clean. There are other options!

    I did this in my laundry room and it has lasted about 8 years! The counter without the sink still looks perfect. The one with the sink has started to show wear… mainly parts that were touching the caulk near the sink. If it’s a low traffic area then it’s a great idea!

    Agree with earlier reviews that this is only a temporary fix. We did this in our bathroom and it looked great for ~1 year, but now (2-3 years in) it’s wearing away in some heavy use places and yellowing. Additionally, we’ve never used harsh chemicals to clean the surface (only water and baking soda)

    I just redid my kitchen 3 months ago but didnt use this kit. I used a gel stain (really nice brand) for the cabinets, then primed the countertops & painted them, then covered with several coats of a water based polyurethane. It’s held up nice so far. Much cheaper than this and I really enjoyed doing this project.

    We used the desert sand in our kitchen 8 and a half years ago. It’s pretty much a two person job. We had the fake butcher block looking laminate. We did a lot of sanding before the first step in the application. It’s not easy work but it turned out great. Also, after a while the top coat that gives it a shine wears down. We contacted Rust-Oleum and they send us a free can of the top coat.
