do if there’s no specific info in the turkey do we just throw it out? I hate to throw money in the trash but really don’t want to get sick. how do we know?

    • Rebecca

Don’t throw it out, cook it to the correct temperature & disinfect properly so there’s no cross contamination & you’ll be fine. That’s what they reonlinemend. 90 people have gotten sick since like November, from multiple sources, that’s why they’ve named no brands. But do the things above & you have nothing to worry about. Our family eats ground turkey usually twice a week, many brands, never any issues.

  2. Emily

any dates on the turkey? we have some in the freezer

  3. Aleshia Jones

All stores must offer refunds for any recalled item. No receipt needed. Take it back to your local store for a full refund.
On a side note we purchased the big box of mixed goldfish and 2 of the recalled items were in there. We have already eaten half the box. I am taking the other half back to Sam’s for a full refund.

    • Kati

You can request a refund on the Pepperidge Farm website.

  4. Tolu

omg. I bought fresh cut melon mix from Walmart yesterday…..and gobbled it all up.

    • Lana

That was more than a month ago!

  5. lynnleco

Tons of turkey in my freezers…now what? Return without receipts?

    • Tia

Nothing you can do as specific brands have not been determined. On the CDC website, it just says to handle it and cook it properly.

    • Rebecca

There’s no recall!!! She should really clarify this. Cook it properly & sanitize as needed & you’re fine. “CDC is not advising that consumers avoid eating properly cooked turkey products, or that retailers stop selling raw turkey products.”

  6. Aleshia Jones

    NEW RECALL ALERT:
Kraft Heinz is voluntarily recalling their Taco Bell Salsa con Queso Mild Cheese Dip due to a botulism risk.

The product is a 15 oz glass jar with the individual package UPC # 021000024490

  7. Rebecca

It’s important to note that there is NO recall on raw turkey. , “CDC is not advising that consumers avoid eating properly cooked turkey products, or that retailers stop selling raw turkey products.”
Cook to temperature & sanitize properly & you will be fine.

    • Aleshia Jones

Warnings are put out for a reason. She never said not to eat it, if you are okay with the risk than so be it, but not everyone is. If she had not posted this I wouldn’t have known that 2 of the 4 big boxes of goldfish I purchased at Sam’s club had a recall. These warnings are important as someone mentioned previously cross contamination and improper cooking at a restaurant happens all of the time. Not to mention those who are immune onlinepromised. Sick, young, elderly, pregnant are all at high risks since their immune systems are onlinepromised. Also, many of the times the majority of us can fight off these food illnesses so we never realize the bout of diarrhea or that small tummy ache may have actually been food poisoning. It is hard to pinpoint out what makes someone not feel well especially if it is packaged food contamination. I have a family of 6. My youngest devours goldfish and that is why I buy so many. He ended up having a tummy ache for 3 days with diarrhea, so did 2 of my other kids. The only ones that didn’t get the same symptoms are my husband and my eldest son who didnt eat any of the goldfish. Was it the goldfish? Who knows….maybe, maybe not. As I was writing this I got a phone call from Sam’s club notifying me of the recall and urging me to bring my items back…so yes, I believe this is a big deal. Also, if some tried to give one of my kids a recalled item I would also speak up. My kids health is my priority. I would have been more discreet about it, but I do not think the mother was being malicious, more concerned. I wouldn’t feed my kids let alone someone else’s kids possibly contaminated items and risk someone falling ill. I would feel terrible.

    • Rockstar

I agree, Rebecca, the PSA is misleading on a couple of these. People brought this up when it was first posted by H2S a couple of days ago. I don’t know why so many people object to being fully informed about the nature of the “warning,” and I certainly appreciate the info that I don’t have to empty my freezer of otherwise good meat. I gather from follow-up onlinements on my own anecdote that we’re all supposed to be paranoid in spite of what the experts say and being “well intentioned” is good enough – even if you don’t know what you’re talking about and it causes waste.

Aleshia, a good friend of mine just got over a bout of salmonella. She was violently ill for over a week and eventually was prescribed antibiotics to get over it. Everyone’s different, but I feel confident that you would KNOW if your kid’s had salmonella poisoning.

  8. Lana

There have been NO ILLNESSES from the Ritz or Goldfish crackers!!! This should be clarified! These posts should be more clear on the recall and not just posted to scare people!

    • Rebecca

I agree!! Those were voluntary recalls, no illnesses & wouldn’t be even if you ate them. No reason to scare people.

      • Ani

Agree. Like the psa approach but the headline on this is really sensationalized. Please don’t.

    • Rockstar

Yes, I had a gathering of kids today at my house. Bless her heart, but my neighbor declared to all of us today that there was a recall on goldfish when I started passing out snack bags to the kids. We’d already eaten several bags so I wasn’t worried at all, but felt like I had to collect them all up from the kids lest I look like I was purposely trying to poison the kids. Turns out mine weren’t even the ones recalled 😒

      • Tia

Oh, man! I can imagine your face when she said that! Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t take the time to look into what they’re hearing. They just run with the few soundbites they heard. There are lots of flavors of goldfish crackers and only 4 flavors are of a (possible) concern.

        • JC

Yes, I agree. most people do just read the headlines and don’t go further into the article for more info. There are 4 flavors affected. Not all flavors.

    • Sue

You should clarify your statement to say there have been no illnesses reported due to Ritz & Goldfish crackers. But people may have gotten sick from them & not reported it or they didn’t even know what made them sick.

      • Sub

Exactly. No cases reported at this time =/= nobody got sick from eating these food products. The fact that there are concerns is enough for people to be a bit more cautious.

  9. Lee

But not all of the turkey products will be cooked. The biggest concern is cross contaimination. For example, we feed our dogs Raw Chicken Freeze Dried Pet Food, so that meat will never be cooked, but I am extremely cautious that there are scoops and containers for their food to mix and store only, it is never used with our food. Also, when I clean them, I use a seperate dish rag and a little bleach and a little bleach in the sink afterwards. And I would much rather see H2S spread these posts, even if it’s a POTENTIAL for illness, because it makes you aware of the risk and more diligent in avoiding food illness or cross contamination. I have Crohn’s disease, and I actually avoid a lot of foods like melons, spinach, and lettuce because I cannot afford to get a food borne illness. By the time they or I figure out that’s what it is, and it’s not just my normal Crohn’s symptoms, it may be too late to treat.

    • AustinTX

Agreed. When you’re immunoonlinepromised or pregnant, you really can’t take a chance w/ food-borne illness. I might cook my turkey to the proper temperature, but the local burger joint might not- so I want to know that people are getting sick from turkey products period. Raising awareness is necessary so that people can make informed decisions, whether we agree w/ those decisions or not.

  10. Mechelle Morse-Dembro

I had ordered the box of goldfish from Amazon on Amazon Prime Day! Does anyone know what we do? Do we throw it out or send it back to Amazon? Thanks!

    • Tia

Click on the link above under Pepperidge Farm and it will take you to a page that explains how to submit for reimbursement.

    • Katrina6875

If it is the same box I ordered and just received from Prime Day it does not include any of the Goldfish that are listed on this post.

  11. 50ShadesofLipstick

Aleshia Jones- I totally agree. It’s everyone’s prerogative to determine the level of risk that they are personally onlinefortable with. You and I might be healthy adults that are not currently pregnant, but for other people to be worried about getting sick from contaminated food is a onlinepletely valid concern to have right now. And if someone pointed out to me that there had been a recall on a snack that I was handing out to a bunch of kids, then I certainly wouldn’t be offended. I’d be grateful that they decided to speak up and I’d go do the research myself. Who’s seriously gonna remember the exact flavors that were recalled off the top of their head anyway?

  12. DJ

Hey, can someone please tell me what date do you look for on the goldfish crackers? I had ordered a box of them on amazon and wanted to check where the date is stated so I dont give it to my toddler. Thank you H2S team for sharing the info!

  13. Paige

Wow! Thank you for this post, I only knew about the goldfish. My mother told me about the goldfish and to check my packages. Luckily, ours weren’t affected. Anyhow, I appreciate you keeping us informed!!

  14. mikeB

Most of these products make me sick normally….

    • AZ

      LMAO…I like you.

  15. Sue

Wow, can’t believe people are upset about this post. The title of the post clearly states may make you sick. & it’s nice to have a summary of the recent recalls or warning since it’s easy to miss one. Plus, the links to the FDA are right there if people need more clarification.

    • Rockstar

If only people would read the full FDA links…

    • QueensGirl

Agreed! Only on Hip2Save would people get upset about a post like this LOL

  16. Sushi

We have the same situation so we will do that

  17. Tina

If anyone in your family had salmonella, you would know it. It would not be a little bit of a tummy ache and diarrhea, especially for a child who ate so much of the product.

  18. JUDY TRAC
