   I so thank you for the ideas that you post !! Today we made a fairy garden with general dollars ceramic castle fairy 🧚‍♀️ and bird feeder , and I had a tub metal from Cvs clearance last year made holes to drain water and use that one for the fairy garden , both soculents Home Depot big tub different kind 19.99 , and my granddaughter so happy and my daughter glad to keep her busy , going to have her make more to give to the great grand mother’s thank you

   I think these are cute, but our teachers have not acted very well. They are on facebook onlineplaining about their wages, and talking to kids about it. They honestly make an average of 65k plus benefits a year. So I struggle with this. I was always taught to appreciate what you have. I feel like saying if you had hip2save to teach you how to save money, you would be better off! I don’t think that is what they want though.

  Not to debate…but…averages are difficult. I am a teacher with a master’s degree that’s been with my district for 10 years and still am at step 2.5 (technically should be at 10, however, there have been many pay freezes). In my district there are a large chunk that are at the top and another at the bottom, which is why averages don’t tell the story of the lower paid chunk. Yes, we have some benefits, but it is not like our insurance is free. I pay hundreds a month plus thousands for my deductible.

  An end of the year teacher gift should show appreciation for the hard work, time and dedication your child’s teacher has spent. Yes, I am unhappy with my salary but I bust my butt giving my Kinders the best year they can have. I spend countless hours after school planning and creating and spending way too much of my own modest salary buying things to enhance their experience. I went into teaching because I love kids. I go everyday because I love kids. I do everything I can to help them succeed even when the standards and expectations are ridiculous and not developmentally appropriate but someone with no teaching background or child experience has deemed that’s what kids should be able to do.

  If you were taught to appreciate what you have, and aside from the teacher voicing their frustration about their low pay they have done a good job teaching your child, please consider an end of the year acknowledgment. A gift isn’t necessary (although nice) but even a note thanking them for the time they spent on your child is meaningful. Teaching can be a thankless and difficult job.

  Now if your child’s teacher wasn’t very good, meaning your child didn’t learn anything this year, then don’t do anything. I hope that is not the case.

  I’m sorry, Ana, but I am a teacher who uses Hip2Save and I don’t think I’m better off more than others. Yes, I’ve definitely saved money but I’m extremely offended that you as a non-teacher, can sit here and voice your opinion about a job you’ve never held. I feel bad for your child’s teacher who I guess isn’t even worthy of a gift from the Dollar Tree after teaching/taking care of your child for 180 days out of the year.

  First, I have been a teacher! I choose to stay home with my kids and homeschool and then we sent them to a Christian School, so I know what’s appropriate to talk to children about and what is not. Wages, no.
  I’m sorry, Drema, but you are why we took out children out. The hostility and entitlement onlineing from teachers these days. I get quite tired of people getting “offended” so easy, so that might be what you’re teaching kids, to hurl insults when you don’t like what you hear.
  TeacherAmy you sound like the kind of teacher a child would be fortunate to have.
  I do understand what you are saying and definitely some teachers do deserve a huge thank you!

  Ana, I am not a teacher and I am offended by your post. And I don’t get offended easily. Teachers work hard teaching and raising our kids, work extra hours beyond the school day/year, and spend a lot of their own money buying supplies for their classrooms. You get tired of people being so offended easily, yet you are offended by them discussing their wages. Why shouldn’t the be able to ask for a raise? Your average is way off by the way from what they get paid where I live and in other parts of the country. Should they onlineplain on Facebook? I am not a fan of Facebook and what people post in general. I suggest you don’t” friend” them if you don’t want to see their posts. Should they discuss it with their students? Maybe their students asked them why school was closed one day or why there was a march and they were just answering honestly. You are hurling insults yourself at Drema, so please don’t accuse her of teaching children to do so. Children learn a lot from their parents. And please do not onlinee up with excuses as to why you can’t write a simple thank you note based on their performance if it is merited.

  Teachers do not raise my kids. They do not have to spend their own money. They do make 40k-95k a year in our area. You might live in a cheaper place, but here it’s expensive. If anyone else were on a public facebook page onlineplaining about their wages they would be fired. No, You do not talk to children about your paycheck. You would politely say, Hey lets talk about history, or reading or writing. You know, the things they are suppose to be talking about. According to Drema, You as a NON teacher can’t voice your opinion about a job you’ve never held. It would be nice if we could just treat each other nice and say thank you all year to teachers that are doing a good job.

  And you’re right, I’m offended by their wages because we just passed a bond to ADD ON $400 a year for schools and teachers. So our property taxes that are $5000 a year just got hit with another $400. It was almost a billion dollar bond. It’s quite piggish if you ask me. So excuse me if I dont feel like they need more. Not only that, the last post on here regarding taking a gift to your school bus driver had teachers stating that they hate coffee and always get coffee gift cards from parents.

   I love this so much! I am a volunteer reading tutor for 2nd graders and at the end of the year I have put together similar S’more kits for my students. I add a couple of books and/or a gift card to a book store, with a tag that shows children making Smores by the campfire and says, “Keep reading S’more this summer!” As a volunteer, I am part of a group that depends on a teacher from the school to allow us to use their classroom after school to tutor. Amazingly, not all teachers want us in their classroom. I like to thank the amazing art teacher that allows me to use her classroom throughout the year, by donating art supplies that go on sale (Thanks Hip2save for posting great deals!) and giving her an Amazon gift card so that she can order what she needs for her class. So if you are financially able, throw in a gift card to your child’s teacher for supplies!
