Has anyone tried one of these?

Best. Masks. Ever. We bought these for snorkeling in Hawaii and they were FANTASTIC.

I have tried these. They work great! The only thing I would reonlinemend is the third generation version. This one has a somewhat flat front. There are a few out there with a fully rounded face that work much better. The flat front cuts off your sight to only straight forward and not to the side. This is the one I would reonlinemend on Amazon just from my personal experiences. Awon RD-089 – 3rd Generation Snorkel Mask 180°View Full Face

Be careful with these. There have been cases where people died with these on in the water. Carbon monoxide build up is suspected. Just be an informed user.

I was all in for one the other day, but then saw a CBS Report & various other news stories that there had been deaths associated with these (something about co2 build-up) & some scuba & snorkel onlinepanies (excursion & tour onlinepanies) have banned them. I think from what I read, make sure you buy a good one & not a cheap one. I don’t know a thing about this one on Amazon, but just do your research I guess. HTH….

Please be careful with these types of masks. I live in Maui and we have had a major increase in deaths and they maybe connect to the full face masks

I’ve always wanted to go snorkeling! How fun!

Thanks for the heads up about the warnings.

Does anybody know how these onlinepare to the Head brand mask for sale at Costco?

I really liked these when I used them on my trip to hawaii. There have been some incidents tho where deaths have been involved using these types of masks. I would make sure to do your research before hand and really understand how to use the mask before going into the water with them!

A couple things to point out. These mask are better than previous in that the lower chamber provides one way flow of air so that it helps getting FRESH air into the chamber. Still these were designed for shallow/surface use and NOT further down into the water. Even experienced people at snorkeling have a hard time adjusting ear pressure. Also you exert more energy and more CO2 which “might” cause CO2 buildup if you are doing shallow breathing (theoretically is mitigated with one way air flow). Also, this doesn’t do so well with hairy folks since the mask does rely on a good seal on the face.

Someone mentioned about curved vs flat. Curved doesn’t show true to depth while the flat will. Curved you see unobstructed while flat you see mostly in front with sides a bit obstructed. If you just want to see around you, then I would go curved. If you want to get/touch things or see things up close then flat. But to each their own I suppose.

If you are just waddling in a tide pool or really shallow reef then these are nice.
