I wonder if you have the standard 2 handle faucet can you still install a one handle faucet? Like convert it or no?

    • Cindy

For kitchens you usually can- as long as the spacing is the same but I think it’s standard. For bathroom vanities there are two different sizes.

I would love if Hip2save would start a discussion on purchasing kitchen cabinets, e.g., going to a local cabinet maker vs the big box stores? A contractor that I was talking to said he would not install any kitchen cabinets made from particle board (“sawdust and glue”). Will they break down over time? Please readers what has been your experience? Grateful for any feedback on such a major decision.

Hi Jennifer! You may get a lot of feedback from readers if post on our Facebook Page!

Thanks for all the replies guys!

Jennifer, particle board cabinets are the lowest quality cabinets out there and do not hold up nearly as well. I don’t blame him for saying he doesn’t install those. You can go up to a better quality without going ‘top of the line’ and spending tons. If you sit down with an associate at a big box store, they should be able to give you a bid, as well as your local custom cabinet guy. Feel free to email me, [email protected] 🙂

We installed the cabinets that Lowes carries instore when we built our new house a few years ago and they have been just fine. We have had no problems with them.

    • Traci

We added on and bought Kraft Maid semi custom a year ago. I believe they can be ordered through Lowe’s as well but as no one was willing to help me there I used a local kitchen/bath onlinepany who was awesome at helping design a strategy to include what I wanted and address a weird spacing issue. We spent $5k on a largish master bath but they are amazing and I think worth the investment on the front end.

Anyone know how the Kohler brand stands up with hard water? We have a well with of sediment, iron, lime, etc.

  4. cm

Kohler is excellent in hard water. I think most of the fitting have been solid brass inside but please check to make sure. We love this brand

  5. Jenn

We have two of the Georgeson single hole single handle, and we really like them. We have had them installed for about a year now, and they are holding up great. I’m ordering three more for our new house!

  6. Leane

I can tell you that we have Amish in our area and the cabinets are solid wood and half price of Home Depot or big box stores. We are in Pa

  7. Leane

Yes cabinets made with particle board will not hold up and if the board gets wet it will expand and deteriorate. They are just pressed sawdust and glue???
