I just had to onlinement on the posted pic. I’ve never seen a child that old in a booster. He looks at least 10 or 11 years old.

    • Andrea

Age isn’t as much of a factor in the use of a booster seat as size is. He clearly fits in it properly. It’s sad that people get shamed and pressured to get older kids out of booster seats (and turn toddlers forward facing too early). Keeping kids safe is more important.

      • Andrea

Totally agreed with you Andrea, I was questioned many times about why I still had my them 2 year old rear facing position, but never be mention the face that she is very tiny, needless to say I did not forward face her until she was 3 years old. Safety is first.

        • Andrea

          “Fact” not face

      • jos

But it appears he’s not fitting properly. The seat belt looks to be pulled down to go through the booster then up over his shoulder. This kid in the picture looks tall enough to use a car seat belt without a booster safely and properly.

      • Bryant

Andrea, there was no judgment in my onlinement. It was simply an observation.

    • Ashley

In pa are rule states…. Once children outgrown forward facing car seat, secure them in a belt positioning booster seat with a lap and shoulder belt until the seat belt fits properly, typically when a child is approximately 4 feet 9 inches and between 8 and 12 years of age

      • jos

All if my 3rd grade 8 yr old students are too big for a booster and some are pretty short. No way a 10 yr old properly fits

        • ashley

Seatbelts were designed and tested on adults. Kids absolutely need boosters til they are 4’9″ and atleast 10-12 years old. The booster that is pictured will fit taller children wonderfully as the headrest raises up much higher and the side wings extend out. At ten years old, a no back booster would be a fine choice as well.

    • Kaylee

      That’s my cousins son! And yes, he’s 10 😊

    • Amy

My 10 year old rides in a booster most of the time and well for quite some time. My 12 year old rides in the back seat when available. She road in a booster till she was 10 (she is bigger than her younger brother and we ran out of room for the booster seat when the baby was born). My 2 year old is rear facing (except in my parents vehicle) and I have no immediate plans to turn him around.

    • jos

I know! That’s the first thing I noticed is you can tell the seat belt is being pulled down to fit him in that seat. I bet if he sat in a car thr seat belt wpuld fit him properly by height making it safe to use the car seat belt. If this seat had to pull the seat belt down for him then it’s not being used safely. My son, who’s average height, out grew his booster by 7 yrs old! The seat belt was being pulled down and below his shoulder then up and over. I had him sit in the car without his booster and sure enough. The seat belt fit properly. Making a kid use a booster because they still aren’t 100 lbs won’t make it safer than using the seat belt correctly! Besides, I know petite women who are 30 yrs old and not 100 lbs!

    • Mandi

My kids are 8 and 10 and still in boosters. The shoulder belt height is important, but you also want to look at the lap belt. It’s called a lap belt because it should sit one top of their legs, not across their belly. Without a booster to keep it in place, it hits my kids around their belly button. It can cause serious stomach damage in a car accident. There are a lot of “older” kids that really should be still using boosters that aren’t.

  2. Jesse

I agree! My girl Is 9, taller than average. She is still going strong in her recaro five point. She loves it and is still able to meet the height requirements. We have tried to move her to a booster and she does not like it. She doesn’t like falling asleep and having her head go forward. I don’t care what it looks like to anyone else, as long as my kid is onlinefy and safe!

  3. Rachael

Thank you! I have been hunting for a deal on this specific booster!!! I bought 2!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Perfect! You’re so welonlinee Rachael!

  4. lm

This is a great booster! We used it in my car until my kid turned 10 then gave it to someone else!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

How cool! Great to hear how well it held up! Thanks for the awesome feedback!

  5. Ty

I still have my 7 year old who weighs 76 pounds in his 5 point harness. Yes many laugh and tell me he is too big for a car seat, but it’s my child and my choice to keep him safe. I specially bought a car seat that would aconlinemodate heavier children.
Kiddos to those who continue to use car seats 🙂

    • Erin

My five-year-old is the only one I know still in a five-point harness, but I can’t live with knowing I could give her more safety but not doing it just because no one else was doing it!

      • Laura

My 7 year old is still in a 5 pt harness and I have no plans to change that any time soon. It’s what he knows tjough, so he also hasn’t asked to be out of it either.

    • Ashley

I’m with you. My daughter turns 7 in January and still in a 5 point. She is on the smaller side at only 45lbs which makes me feel so much better having her in a car seat. When people say stuff about it, I brush it off. My husband and I are the only ones having to “deal with putting her in and out of it” Nobody else takes my kids in their cars so it’s up to us even though we get lots of “aren’t your kids old enough to be out of their car seat”. I just say yes but I like them being in them. ( I also have a 4 year old)

    • Mili

My almost 7 yr old is still in a 5 point harness. After knowing a little girl ejected from a car and killed, I don’t care about anyone else’s opinions. We are all just doing the best we can.

    • Laura

Wow, that was rude. You know, some of us care about our kids’ safety. Not your child? Not your problem.

    • ashley

When car accidents are the number 1 killer of kids, being extra cautious in what our kids ride in is definately not a bad thing. I highly reonlinemend car seats for the littles on fb for great info on how to keep kids safe in vehicles.

    • Andrea

Bubble wrap isn’t very effective in a high speed crash; or as a passive aggressive onlinement in a mature adult conversation about child safety.

  6. Sheila

Our Britax Pinnacle 90 harnessed Booster will fit my kid till she is 90lbs and 58 inches. However if it were up to her she would just be using the seatbelt.

  7. E

I have used these boosters for all 3 of my kids for years!! I love them! I have a 10, 7 and 4 year old that all still use them. I highly reonlinemend them! They are stylish, great quality and fit well in just about any size car! The back will also onlinee off if you just want to use the bottom portion.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Great to hear how well they have worked for your family! Thanks so much for sharing your experience with these seats!

  8. Megan Beirne

I am so glad to see that there are so many people who have their kids still in 5 point harnesses past when it is “socially acceptable” to be. My kids (almost 9, almost 7, almost 5, 3, and 16 months) are all in 5 point harnesses and will continue to be until they no long meet the height/weight requirements. Five-point harnesses are MUCH safer than seat belts. I know from personal experience! My four kids (I was pregnant with my 5th) and I were in a car accident in December 2015 that set all of the airbags off and totaled our van. I suffered a chest contusion and a soft tissue shoulder injury due to the seat belt. After almost a year and a half later and months of physical therapy, I am still suffering from my shoulder injury. I can no long through a ball like I used to or even lay on my side without disonlinefort. All four of the kids were in five-point harnesses and walked away from the accident with absolutely no issues. Praise God! I fear that had my older two been in booster seats with a seat belt, their injuries would’ve been similar to mine. For those of you who have to deal with all of the onlinements from others, I onlinemend you! Stand firm in your beliefs! The safety of our kids is more important than doing what is “socially acceptable.”

    • sara

How do your older kids fit with just a sweater? I am starting to have a problem with my five year old who is outgrowing 7t’s sitting in the car seat we have when he has on a hoodie or a zip-up sweater on the way to school. He is very tall and just over 60lbs.

      • Megan

I have a garage so the kids get in their car seats without their sweatshirts or coats and then just slip them on before they get outside.

        • Sara

I have a garage also, but live in IL, so that is not an option. We get below 0. I would love to keep my kids in this type of seat, but they need to be able to have a sweater on and than put a jacket on when getting out of the car. Do anyone else have this issue?

          • Lo

I’m in Ohio so it gets pretty cold here. We use blankets in the car. I don’t keep the blankets in the car overnight because then they’d be freezing too. Love the kohls fleece blanket but they are pretty large. Last year I found blankets that plug into the cigarette lighter at Walmart.

  9. Angela

If height dictated when you’re out of a car seat, then I should buy one for myself!! 😀

    • Erin

Height, weight, and age help determine how developed the child’s body is. A more developed, adult-like body will be less likely to suffer life-threatening injury from a regular seatbelt.

  10. Jessica

Snarking aside, does anyone have this and is it narrow like the Radian seats?

    • Ashley

No. It’s 19.5″ at it’s narrowest with the sidewings all the way in. With them extended, its at 22.5″

  11. Clairesmom

I would like to keep my almost 7 year old in a 5 point harness. Just curious if everyone here will share the brand they are using. Thanks!

    • Mari

My 5 year old uses her 5 point harness from diono, i dont rember which model but we really like this brand, they seem to have one of the highest weight and height limit

    • Ashley

If you want a seat that will last a few years at her age, look at the Britax Pioneer or Britax Frontier 🙂

    • Andrea

I think your only options at that age will be a Britax Frontier or Pinnacle. I strongly believe it is worth it though. Target has a great deal on the Frontier right now if you trade in an old seat you get an extra 20% off the sale price!

  12. Laurie m Villotta

My 9 year old rides her bike back and forth to school. She would just die of humility if I still had her in a booster seat getting out of it in front of her school. She was out of a booster by first grade at the age of 8. A 5 point harness was gone by kindergarten. I understand safety, but I know no one in her grade school at the age of 7 that is still in a booster or 5 point harness. But I am really laid back and the seatbelt has done trick just fine.

    • Jamie

This is moronic. By this logic, we should cave to all peer pressure. It’s worked just fine for you because you haven’t experienced an accident. So congrats on your kid being so much more advanced than others. Cool is so much better than safe.

    • Mel

Thanks for sharing Brandy! I’m going to look into this!

  13. lovingandlaughing

This seems to be out of stock. I am unable to add one to my cart.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Still available for me now as I click through if you wanted to try again!

  14. Lauren

I already got a cancellation for my order 😞 wonder if they’ll give me a rain check as all the others I looked at (other brands are now gone as well)

    • Amanda C

I received a cancellation as well. I had ordered the purple one. Disappointed since it was still available to purchase hours after I placed my order.

  15. Douglas Caines

My sister still has my 4 feet 8 inches 70 pounds 13 year old 8th grade neurotypical niece relegated in her back seat in a Diono Monterey as a booster. My 13 year old niece in my opinion is justified in her thinking that it is degrading for her to be a 13 year old 8th grader stuck in a high back booster. My sister has told my 13 year old niece that she is trapped in her Diono Monterey until such time that she five steps
