Always check what benefits you have available through Costco, AAA, or your Bank for rental cars. We rented with Hertz through USAA for a full size for a week is $140 including taxes/fees. Couldn’t even find that through this flash sale. A close second as far as rates came Costco followed by AAA.

Thanks for the helpful tip Ellen!

This is not really a great deal.

This was a bust for me! We are needing a rental car here in a few weeks, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to check out the price! It is double what we are paying through Enterprise… yikes!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Darn!

Another reminder to always check Costco if you have a membership. Even with the flash sale, Hertz was more than the rate I had previously booked for an uponlineing trip, BUT I found another onlinepany was $35 cheaper than the rate I booked, so I cancelled my initial reservation, and booked for the cheaper rate.

Thanks for the honest feedback Stacy!

Agreed Costco travel is THE best price all the time for rental cars!!

The need to rent a car is usually unexpected, like the Spanish Inquisition. And… “No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!”

Check Budget too if available in the area. I’ve been monitoring rentals with various onlinepanies for awhile & was getting about $150 for a 6 day Cayman trip we have onlineing up then a few days ago on a whim I looked & it was $52 for the same period with budget. The actual rental was $7 for a week of a full size car, then $45 in fees & taxes. I jumped on it.

My car insurance states we have rental car coverage but the lady behind the counter always has a story of how it was a nightmare a couple didn’t pay for their insurance. Do you guys skip this? It costs us around $23.00 extra a day and really puts a dent in the budget for vacation.

Below is a good article re: whether a credit card provides insurance coverage (as well as how car insurance vs. credit card rental coverage works). But basically, if you have car insurance, in most cases (international trips and business car rentals may not be covered) you’d be covered for collision and theft, and if you have a credit card that offers rental coverage, that would kick in as secondary coverage if your car insurance doesn’t cover all costs. Additionally, personal injury and personal liability coverage (i.e. damage to yourself, others, or property) may be offered through your car insurance or health insurance too. This is one of those cases it really can pay to read the fine print of your insurance or make some calls, because opting for unnecessary coverage through a rental agency can double the cost of a car rental.

Check to see if your credit card onlinepany has rental car insurance and if it is primarily or secondary.

Exactly where do you put the “FLASH” code to get this deal?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Hi there! When I click through and select my dates and location, I find the code FLASH already listed in the code box. Then just click on “book as member” Or “book as guest” to find your rates. Hope this helps!

  12. 3boysmom

It’s asking for a CDP code or number….I’m confused ??

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You will only need the code listed above. 🙂

      • Alexandra

        Thanks Collin!
You really do have the BEST website!
