Bahaha Angela I was thinking the same thing!!!

  2. Erika

We’ve been painting rocks all summer and hiding them at our local parks. My kids LOVE finding other hidden rocks at the park. It is so fun and creative. We have such a fun time!

    • Laura

What fun! As an adult, finding that would make my day!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

How fun! Thanks for sharing Erika!

  3. Amanda

Please can one of you explain the rules behind the rock thing?? I think it may be a ‘take one, replace one’ idea, am I right?

    • Liz

I think it just depends on “the group “. I live in Ohio, and the most popular one is: Northeast Ohio Rocks. The are other groups in other states as well. Just do a search on Facebook. Painting rocks, and hiding rocks to spread happiness, and smiles!!

      • Amanda

        Thanks Liz! Love this idea!

    • Byanca

It’s saying that Michaels is supplying everything so I’m assuming this includes rocks as well as the color paints..

  4. Kerry

Hello fellow hipsters, this is a serious question, no kidding. Where would I find rocks like these? Or, do I buy them? No pretty rocks near me. Thanks.

    • NavyMom

Here in Texas, we have a sand and gravel place you pay by the pound. I ended up getting a bag of the big ones from Home Depot. The smaller ones, you can get from Hobby Lobby.

      • kerry

Thank you both so much, I had no clue.

    • Andrea Snowden

$10 for a bag of River Rocks from home Depot 🙂

  5. Angela

You can find smaller rocks at Home Depot they have bags for approx $12. Also if you have a stone center or place where people buy rock for landscaping you can find some great rocks there. There is a local one to me and they have great rocks and charge approx $5 for a 5 gallon bucket. And you can pick your rocks. If you find one and keep it then you paint another to replace it so there are still many in circulation. I have found 15 but I have hid 24. I love seening people post when they find a rock I painted.. when the little kids smile it is awesome. I love painting and hiding them. Sometimes I leave clues on the local facebook page sometimes I do not. Most areas have a facebook page now. You just have to serach facebook and most likely you will find one in your area. So fun. And I have no little kiddos I do it just for fun.

Angela, I love tat you do this! I think I’ve just picked up a new hobby! I called a local stone center and the stones are $1.18 and up per pound. I like your $5 for a 5 gallon bucket better! I’ll keep looking. What’s the best paints to use for this project- regular acrylic? Also, do you “seal” these in anyway? Thanks 🙂

      • Angela

I use acrylic paints and I just bought some paint pens to try out.Yes it is best to seal them I had been using some spray sealer from walmart but just got some from Hobby Lobby that I like better some people use an outdoor mod podge but I think that is a little pricey. If you have a creek you may be able to find rocks there also. My daughter goes canoeing and she finds really great smooth rocks. I also live near the Ohio River and there are a few spots with great rocks. There are also some great ideas to paint on Pinterest

  6. Diana

We’re here at my Michael’s and they’re not doing the rock painting. Is this ALL Michael’s or just certain ones?

  11. Kerry

I looked on my local Michael’s page Ann’s can’t find anything about the rock painting 🙁 I think it must be just certain locations but this page made it sound like all locations!
