   How fun! Better than a goodie bag, especially for older kids. My daughter is super into making slime. There are so many recipes to try and she likes trading it with her friends.

   Borax is dangerous for kids -substitute it with contact solution for it to be safer

  Agreed, my daughter was making it, we didn’t realize it was borax, she had bought it with grandma. She kept getting sick and we didn’t know why at first, when we took the slime away she was fine. Lots of articles out about that

  No. The contact solution that works contains boric acid. Equally as harmful.

  If you are that worried about Borax, you might want to avoid making slime altogether. Contact solution and liquid starch also contain some form of boron (boric acid, sodium borate, etc.). That said, the FDA has classified boron as noncarcinogenic; it does not penetrate the skin; and it is nonbioaccumulative. Although it’s toxic ingested in large doses (as is salt, incidentally), boron is an essential mineral the body needs (like salt). If your kids are old enough to understand that they can’t eat it and wash their hands after playing with it, risks are low.

   I have seen recipes using liquid starch instead of Borax. Haven’t tried it yet. Wonder how safe that is? I really want to try making slime with my kiddos.

  Yes, I use school glue and sta-flow (sp?) starch. Never tried borax.

   Contact solution is the safe way to make slime. Do not use borax.

   Make sure it’s elmers. Crazy Art or the equivalent don’t work! Trust me, it’s worth the few extra cents.

  You couldnt be more right about this!!!we tried slime last weekend and it turned into soup!! We had purchased an off brand glue at walgreens….atick with elmers for sure!

   My daughter uses glue, lotion and a little hair conditioner. It actually makes her hands nice and soft when they play with it.
