DIY Febreze Spray (Just 2 ingredients!)

If you like to use Febreze spray to freshen up the smell of your home, consider making your own by simply dissolving laundry scent booster in an empty water bottle!

Just use the brand and scent booster you prefer, and then there will be no need to buy a separate Febreze product. I like that you can customize the scent and make it stronger or less strong as desired by adjusting the amount of crystals used.

DIY Febreze Spray

Supplies Needed:

Laundry In-Wash Scent Booster (about 1/4 cup per 28 oz. Water Bottle)
Warm Water
Empty Spray Bottle

Directions:

Mix a cup or two of warm water with about a 1/4 cup scent booster crystals until dissolved. Pour mixture into water bottle. Add more water to fill spray bottle.
Spray curtains, carpet, sofa, sheets, etc. as desired to freshen smell.

Between the kids and dog, my house can use all the scent boosting possible! LOL! I really enjoy this fresh Downy Unstopables scent on laundry and also throughout the house!

From what I’ve read this is not safe. These are meant to be washed out in the laundry and are not meant to beonlinee water droplets in the air that could possibly be inhaled. Per the manufacturer’s info this is not reonlinemended.

Yes, I’ve heard that. I also heard that the beads are very flammable, so the residue they leave behind is, too.

I have tried this…be careful if it doesn’t mix well it will leave residue spots on what you have sprayed.

Agreed——I’ve had the scent booster stain things IN wash before! I’d never spray this on my furniture.

1 cup distilled water, 1/2 cup cheap vodka, 10 drops essential oil– much safer!

Be careful around the small animals with this. These are chemicals that you’ll be spraying around their homes. It could very well prove toxic. If you want to kill odors, I’d try natural approach of water & vinegar or get an essential oils diffuser.

Try baking soda in the bottom of the guinea pig’s cage. It’s non toxic and s real odor eliminator.

The jury is still out on whether baking soda is safe for small animals. Particles can be inhaled and be harmful to respiratory systems. And it shouldn’t be consumed either. I’ve had rabbits for years so I’ve done my fair share of research. Don’t mean to hijack the thread or anything.😁

I use this all the time on clothes and furniture it’s never left any residue spots on anything I own. Plus I make my own laundry detergent. We have a high efficiency washer and it now no longer smells
1 cup borax
1 cup super washing soda (not baking soda)
1 bar of soap shredded
5 gallon bucket with lid ( got mine at Home Depot for cheap)
Melt the shredded soap in old pan over stove. place in bucket with the rest of ingrediences and add hot water to fill 5 gallon bucket.
Wait 24 hours then stir. Fill old milk cartons with your homemade laundry detergent
Congratulations you saved a bundle!

Use 3/4 cup Dawn dishwashing soap instead of grated soap. Much easier and faster. I used
to grate soap, but no more. Did you ever use Zote soap? It is hard to find, but a wonderful stain
remover. I can find it at Walmart in FL, but not in Indiana. It onlinees pink or white, but use either.
I never had a stain it would not remove.

Did you ever just make the DIY powder detergent? Same ingredients but different amount minus the water. I would think the water could cause it to turn bad if not used within a certain amount of time??

I used to keep a little pack of the unstoppables in my purse because I love the smell so much. Every time I opened my purse it smelled like fresh laundry! I don’t use it on my clothes either because my kids are so allergic to everything but that way I can get a little good smell fix. I think this would be great to have around for quick spray to freshen the bathroom by spraying the fabric shower curtain or even the waste basket, thank Lina!

Denise, I use that mix of home made detergent but put it in food processor and use 1 Tbs dry per load. So easy!!!
I usually add some ociclean separate in the kids laundry as they are stain machines, lol

Anyone ever try thieves oil? It is not an oil at all. It is all natural. I make this all the time smells great and is a sanitizer. Highly reonlinemended.

It is rumored that back during the plague when people were dying a group of thives had this cleaner they used to not get ill. It has 5 ingredients, rosemary, clove, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and lemon. You put your ingredients in the crock pot, let it sit for several hours (your house will smell great) then you strain out the solids, which can be used again. I store in a mason jar, and I put in a spray bottle. It can be used on your bathroom, kitchen, it works great on wood floors, etc…. It is often called 5 thieves oil.

Thank Sue! Sounds like it smells great and I love the story. It kind of makes sense – eucalyptus is supposed to have a lot of antibaterial properties and I think I’ve heard similar good things about cinnamon. They may have invented the first hand sanitizer 🙂

Theives oi STINKS!!!! IMO had it used in a massage by therapist and had to throw out the clothes I wore home!!! Please smell b4 u put it on, it gets stronger as it stays on. Can’t imagine spraying this anywhere you want to be!!! I washed clothes 3x and still smelled it. Good luck!🐞

You can also use them in the scented wax warmers, much cheaper than scensy (sp?) and smell really good 😉

I was in Dollar General yesterday, and they had a lot of the Febreze sprays, candles, and wax melts in the Christmas scents for $1 a piece. I did not have any coupons, but it surely would have made this an even better deal! These were NOT in the Christmas section, but in the cleaning section.

I’ve used this same type mix for years now. I like the Gain scented Unstoppables, but they’re hard to find now. I’ve never had any adverse effects to person, animals or possessions. I use it for home, vehicles and our camper!

Water and DOWNEY Fabric softener work as well. Gets rid of wrinkles, too. I learned that one from Goodwill Industries. I think 1/3 Downey to 2/3 distilled water.

I’ve found that I can use as little as two teaspoons of scent beads and it still has a phenomenal robust smell. Adding a touch of alcohol definitely helps it dry fast when sprayed on fabric. However not sure what the effects of that will be on the fabric, i believe just about every body spray and perfume has it in there as well so can’t be that awful for it. Happy scent boosting ladies!
