Im confused on this product. Whats the difference between this and the echo? Some people said this doesnt work without the echo but that doesnt make sense to me. Anyone have just this and can give input? Im thinking of buying one for my husbands stocking but obviously wont if it is useless
I thought the same thing, but they do work independent of the echo. My sister got one this week. It’s totally fun, just a mini echo, really. Buy one 🙂 you won’t be disappointed.

Same functionality but speaker is not as powerful. You can only use this in a room.
It does work we’ve been using just this and it worked fine before we got the Amazon echo
This has all the same function as the full echo, but as other stated, it has a much smaller speaker so it’s not as loud. The Dot however can connect through Bluetooth to a separate speaker so you can play it louder. Great idea if you want a couple in multiple rooms or something a bit more inconspicuous than the full echo. And the 3 pack Dots is cheaper than 1 full size echo.
I have the Echo and (5) five Dots. The Echo is close to 10″ tall. It has a really good speaker (which is why the unit is so much taller than the Dots). The Echo doesn’t have an external jack to connect an external speaker, which is ok since the speaker in it is really good. The Dots speaker has a much lesser quality sound. It does has a jack for you to connect a cable directly to a bigger speaker or use Bluetooth to connect to a Bluetooth speaker system. Amazon created the Echo to be your main unit with the hopes that you would purchase Dots for each room throughout your house. You cannot stream the same item to all of your Dots at the same time (like an automated home stereo system) but you CAN use the Dots in each room to listen to different music at the same time. Another great thing is that when you connect other home devices (ie locks, lights, etc) you can connect your Echo and Dots to these devices (wirelessly). You can be in the bedroom and speak your Dot in the bedroom and tell it to turn on lights in the Kitchen or Living room, etc (depending on how many digital lights you have purchased). Keep in mind the other home kits are not cheap, but do onlinee in handy. It may be a novelty for some and wear off but others may find the automation to be extremely handy. This is a fantastic price on the Dots, as when I bought my five, I paid $39.99 each. My whole family loves the Echo and Dots. Alexa onlinees in handy sooooo much. If you have Pandora, iHeartRadio, or possibly a few other streaming accounts (iHeartRadio and Pandora are free) you can link them to Alexa and have her play you music through these devices. Dots sound decent for a small device, but if you like quality sound, you will want to connect them to another speaker source. The great thing is that the Dots and Echo do the same exact thing.

We opted on the google one. It works great with YouTube, current news, and since google is already a search engine you can ask it whatever you’d like. My little ones are practically learning a lot from it. Originally I had wanted the echo, after researching I found google to be more of a fit.

We love these things we have one in living room and the Amazon echo in the kitchen. And we even bought the light switch you can connect so if your onlineing in the house with handful of groceries you can say Alexa turn kitchen lights on and it does. It can play music and tell you weather and play games and you can tell it to add things to shopping list. Well worth the money!!

QVC has the Echo Dot on sale as well. It is priced at $44.96 or with a card you can break it into 5 payments of 8.99 over 5 months. This includes a 2 or 3 month subscription to Amazon Music Unlimited. They are also selling a bundle set of two Echo Dots for 85.96 or 5 monthly payments of $17.19.
Not quite as cheap as Home Depot, but still a great deal!

Thanks again for sharing this deal! I was worried that my order would be canceled this morning after reading other onlinements. So I called my store after placing my order and they pulled the items off the shelf just in time. I also signed up to get a $5 off $50 coupon via text that can only be used in store. I was hoping they might refund the online purchase and let me repurchase with the coupon. The person who helped me blew me away! In then end she ended up refunding me $5 on each item so I got $15 off total – just to be nice because I had to wait for a while for her to figure it out. So I ended up getting all 3 Echo Dots for $91.33 total. Sweet deal! 🙂

I contacted the Home Depot that had the Echo Dot in stock. I inquired about the price and they said they had no knowledge of the special pricing so instead of disputing it I will have decided to pass on it.
