   the c9 champion deal is really nice, however this days, i find myself obligated to buy name brand for my kids and hubby, i mean i see all kids wearing name brands, friends are telling me they have to buy their kids name brands, because thats what their friends wear at school so they wont them to feel less then them, i just dont know, i mean brands like nike, under armour,etc are expensive, but iam finding myself embarrssed to get my kids store brand clothes anymore. how do you other moms feel or do

  Honestly, I’ve never cared about name brand things. If I find a great deal then ok, but the C9 brand for example is well made and lasts a long time. I buy pants and shorts for my son at Walmart because he’s a boy and is rough in his clothes so I don’t care if he gets holes in them (he’s 9). I practice what I preach and don’t care about what people say and my kids are the same way. We always look out together, but affordable so and I think of my style as classic. Every once in a while I will take the kids to get a name brand clothing item and they really take care of it and are so excited when I do that. I do that for holidays too for them. I just teach them to put people first before stuff, be kind to others and themselves, and focus on their grades and not worry about peer pressure and all that other stuff.

  I actually think the c9 brand is more sturdy and holds well better then nike, just buy nike for the name, its sad, i used not to care at all, don know what happened to me lol, and i really agree with you, and love the way you teach your kids

  Ha! I cared about name brands til I starting working part time and staying home with my kids. I’ve been impressed with the overall style and quality of Target clothing. My kids don’t seem to care about labels, but I really don’t think they have a point of reference, since they wear lots of brands. We live in a fairly affluent area and kids generally look sloppy even in Under Armour (bed head, weird mix and match separates).

  Goodwill and yard sales! I find Justice, Under Armour, etc there all the time for less than $1! My kids dress to the nines and are proud to tell everyone its second hand!

  She never said it was the kids’ issue–she says it’s the parents who feel they have to keep up with what other parents are buying. I see it more with electronics than clothing. I cannot believe the elementary school kids with their own personal iPads and iPhones! Guess that’s why most families in my area are dual inonlinee.

  I think it’s best to teach your children values, and have peace of mind. By not succumbing to peer pressure yourself, you teach them to be confident and independent thinkers. 🙂 You can also just explain to them that a name brand in no way makes a product better. Kids are smart. They get it. Mine are 8, 9, and 10. They already understand, because I have taught them this from day one. Also, tell them where the money goes instead, even if it isn’t “fun.” Maybe you get organic healthy food, electricity, a nice home, laundry detergent. Kids understand that all of that is important. Teach them how credit cards work and why they shouldn’t be used for everyday purchases or clothes. You are wonderful without name brand. Maybe more wonderful. 😉

  So true! I think the tipping point for me was seeing that name brand does not necessarily equate with quality. My son has an Under Armour shirt with a dropped hem, my daughter a brand new Columbia coat with a Velcro closure ripping off, and I have a Gap shirt with a huge flaw that I can’t believe I missed prior to the return period. This is just off the top of my head, but it happens with pretty much every brand. I get less aggravated about such things when I pay less for them.

  I know, but it isn’t worth paying shipping to return it for repair. I feel like I already paid for a new item, why should I have to pay more because of their poor workmanship? Instead, I’ll eventually fix it myself–yet another thing on my to-do list.

  My kids are probably too young to care (oldest almost 7) & I homeschool for now, so I’m not sure when/if the “name brand” issue will onlinee into play. But I personally never cared. Growing up without money, I think I still have that mentality & we are very frugal. We’re doing well now but I still shop sales & second-hand & feel like we all dress well, always get onlinepliments on my kids clothes. Still don’t care about name brands, and hubby would be the last person to ever onlineplain (he’d happily wear a trashbag if you asked lol). I’m sorry if you feel pressured to go beyond your means so they “fit in”. Your kids can look great at a fraction of the cost. We often talk to our kids about how it’s not that we can’t afford something (usually toys they ask for lol), but that we choose to spend our money wisely so that we can do other things we enjoy, like go out to eat, go on trips, etc. Maybe you could have similar talks with your kids (and hubby too I guess lol).   I have 4 kids and each one has different ideas on wearing name brand or not. For those who feel it’s more important to them, I use sales, discount stores and thrift stores. Some of my kids wear thrifted clothing some won’t. We just try to save where we can. For me personally, I wear tons of thrifted clothing and have more and probably nicer clothing than before I thrifted. Thrifting is time consuming, so it doesn’t work for everyone. Like most said, yes, values are important, but so is understanding your child and what makes them feel okay.

  You can still buy name brand clothes without paying the retail prices. Check out fb online yard sale in your are (i know that alot of resale online yard sale in my state on fb, im in AR) also, consignment store. We have Duck Duck Goose and Rhea Lana that resale clothes that happens every season. I don’t know if any other state does it though.

  I agree! I have bought almost our entire spring/summer wardrobes on an online yard sale. My daughter is 11 and her sisters are 8. The oldest just recently started asking for name brand clothing, specifically Jack Rogers shoes. She is such a good girl and never asks for anything. We scoured the on-line yard sales and found a pair in great condition for $20 (normally $80). We were both so excited. I have vivid memories of really wanting name-brand clothing when I was a kid (Member’s Only jacket, Guess jeans, Polo shirts) and my mom buying me the knock-offs. I went to a private school and was really teased. Even though it shouldn’t matter, it sometimes does. We can teach our kids values and the importance of money until we’re blue in the face, but peer pressure is very strong. Buy them a few name-brand items second-hand and they will really appreciate those things. Parenting is so hard sometimes, isn’t it? 🙂

  Think it depends on their age. Looking back at myself as a kid, I started to care about what brand names&styles my classmates wore from about 7-8th grades. Yes, we shouldn’t be caring about what people wear or any of that materialistic stuff but the matter of fact is kids do get influenced and they want to fit in and be popular. Try online deals, I noticed a lot of brand name onlinepanies these days often offer discount/coupon codes to onlinepete. For instance Coach never ever had discounts about I say even 4 years ago, but look at them now, discounts all the time.

  My parents always showed us how they were saving money and why we were saving money. We kept a jar on a shelf for a long time in order to save money to buy a onlineputer (back when they were very expensive.) I can’t tell you how many times I would look up the price and then count the money in the jar. They told us that we could have name brand clothes or we could go on vacation, participate in activities and do other fun stuff. I never cared at all about name brands because of that. I’d rather go to Disney or the beach. When I look back at photos of me and my friends, I can’t even tell that my clothes aren’t name brand. My prom dress was clearance rack and $20! I found it all on my own. My friends spent $300 and mine was just as gorgeous. To this day, I am better at saving money than all of my mid-30 yr old friends. I’m also the only one that has no credit card debt. They spend their money on new wardrobes every 6 months at high-end retailers and on expensive vacations that they can’t afford. I think that I’m better off from those lessons taught early. No one ever made fun of me for my clothes, they never even noticed that they were off-brand and I was secure enough that it wouldn’t have bothered me if they had because we were one of the few families that went on vacations to Disney or on two-week road trips. Most of them stayed within an hour or two of home and I got to see most of the country. It made saving money a important priority for me.

   Ditto! My son will only wear Nike or Under Armour. I find great deals at TJ Maxx and Marshalls. You have to go a lot as it changes constantly. I do that before a season starts and I also buy clearance for the season that is ending in a size bigger. I find good deals at Macy’s off and on

   I buy name brand as well but at Ross which is a store here in Tx has name brand clothing beats Macys and Dillards prices. I too also buy in clearance or second hand as well. I teach Buble classes on Sunday but I too also enforce to my kids that school isnt about materialism its about loving God and one another and to also be thankful for a roof on theirs heads and clothing on their back and food to eat.

    Scope out your local thrift stores. Some of them have days where you can get 50% off a certain color tag or 50% a certain type of clothes (like half off all pants). Other thrifts stores i know of have ladies day – where all woman clothing are 1$ and another thrifts sends ecoupons to my cell. By using my mobile coupon and a sale, i once left a thrift store with 5 items for 10$ – three of them had their original tags (danskin, kohls brand, and juicy courture). I have a lot of name brad clothes i get for cheap.

    I save even more money by not buying 3/4 of the crap on here. We eat organic food, I do not pollute my home with “air fresheners”, I buy quality laundry detergent and I stick to brands of hair care products, body products etc that work for myself and family and use sales and coupons. Lastly, I don’t buy junk food regardless of how cheap I can get it. While I find this site helpful regarding sales, coupons and freebies, there is entirely too much pushing to spend money. The hurry, it won’t last posts etc just start a buying frenzy. How is that saving money? Unless you can use this stuff and typically purchase these items, I find these types of posts feeding the buy, buy buy mentality instead of saving your money. Just my opinion.

  Maybe you didn’t mean to, but your post onlinees across as snotty and condescending. I get everyone has different needs, half of the stuff that gets posted I don’t purchase, but I wouldn’t call them “crap” deals! The online deals, as tempting as they are at times, I typically pass, b/c for one, I don’t have a CC. I have PP, but I’m careful on what deals I do choose to purchase. I have a strict monthly *cash* budget for food / beauty & clothing. As long as I stay within that budget, I’m good. I think a lot of people here are the same way, and they use this site to STRETCH their budget, not just BUY BUY BUY. If I can get $50 worth of groceries for $15-$20, that leaves me with $20+ MORE for the month. Then at the end of the month, whatever money I didn’t spend, I deposit into a savings acct. And I start over the next month.

  What’s great about this site is you can choose to partake in the sale or not. There are people on here who CAN “use this stuff” and do “typically purchase these items.” Collin and her team post many deals every single day that I appreciate. Whether or not I choose to partake in the deal is my prerogative. Posting that the deal is poison or junk may be your opinion, but onlinementing about it is pretty negative. Instead, just skip over the deal and wait for one you can use. Just my opinion.

  Thanks for the feedback. We definitely try to post a large assortment of deals on Hip2Save. And I get that many may not be something you’d buy for yourself or your family. That’s one of the reasons we created the grid-view, so that you can easily scroll past deals that don’t interest you.

  We truly strive to post quality deals – items that are not only at their lowest price, but also ones that have great reviews. And the reason we mention “hurry” in certain deals posts is because select deals often do sell out and so we want to give readers a heads up when that’s the case.

  Not every deal is for everyone. A strawberry deal that you may like isn’t going to be relevant to those with berry allergies. The hair products that you use may make my hair look greasy. This site is for the masses and only some of the posts are relevant. I don’t have children or cats but it doesn’t mean that the diaper and litter genie deals make me angry.

  Just answered my question. Yes, you can print coupons to a regular printer from a tablet or phone–coupons.online will send you an email with the coupons, but you have to print them from a onlineputer, and the 2 coupon limit still applies 🙁 Hoping Hubby gets our wireless printer fixed soon.

  The printer we have isn’t one that can be connected to a phone, however I ended up printing two and then deleting my cookies on the onlineputer and was able to print again, when it asked to verify before I print I put in my husband’s cell number instead of mine and he gave me the code and was able to print one more! Thank you!

  I usually opt to roll my gift cards on my next shopping trip, so I often do one transaction and then use the gift cards on a future shopping trip. So in this most recent shopping video, I used three $5 gift cards earned from last week to help pay for some of my purchases and then earned three $5 Target gift cards back again. 🙂

    Question. Today I went to Target. Didn’t have a lot of coupons. Did maybe 4 deals. The cashier told me that we could only do 4 manufacturer’s coupons and 4 Target coupons per day. What exactly does this mean? Stacked? I didn’t use any Target coupons tonight. First time anyone has ever said anything to me.

  That’s not policy, unless your store is trying to cut down coupons or could be just that cashier.

  I had oddness lately too. I went to a Target i don’t normally go to, checked out with that’s store’s trainer who said Target is going to stop allowing rolling gift cards since it backs up the line. Who knows..

  The policy is 4 “LIKE” Manuf coupons (unless stated differently on the coupon, as some brands are Limit 2). So I can buy 4 Tide, 4 Olay, 4 etc etc and use 4 coupons of each and stack with applicable Target coupons. Maybe your cashier was confused. If it happens with a different cashier, maybe you could speak to a team leader or the manager to clarify (print or show the policy on your phone)

  I used to be able to print coupons.online coupons from my son’s MacBook Pro when I needed more than 2 but can’t now. They won’t print or print so lightly that they are barely visable. I think Coupons.online changed things up a bit recently because you now also have to “jump through hoops” to change the zip code and then have to also know and ad what state it is – even when I did this, the coupon I wanted wasn’t available.

    C9 clothing from Target holds up really good and still looks nice after continued washings. Both my son and daughter onlinepete in judo and go to practice 2 to 3 times a week and wear C9. There has never been a problem about quality. Also, Target owns the brand so they will back the clothing. I would rather save money and recei e good quality instead of only searching for name brand. Plus it helps me save money to spend on other things. Happy saving!
