Happy Friday: Creative & Frugal Halloween Costumes
Sent from reader, Heather:
I’m sure you’ve gotten a million costume emails this week but I still wanted to send this as a Thank You! With a little bit of planning and a lot of money saving tactics, I was able to make Duck Dynasty Costumes (Willie and Jace). I bought the yarn and elastic and head band at Michaels with sales and the coupons your site posted about – it came out to $5 for everything, and then I was able to get the little sweatsuits and a piece of felt for the beards at Wal-mart with some overage from coupon/gift card deals that Hip2Save shared for only $10 . onlinebined with some items we borrowed (like the decoy ducks) and some things we already had (like my husband’s hunting calls and camo clothes) we were able to make super memorable costumes for our family of 4 for less than $20 for all of us. Thank you so much for always helping us stretch our dollar and teach our children the value of saving and having fun doing it! Happy Halloween and Happy Friday! D

Instead of dropping a ton of money on every kid getting a store-made Halloween costume, this year I decided I was going to make them. Most of the supplies that I purchased were from JoAnn Fabrics and of course, I used their coupons and Walgreens has been printing out 50% off coupons that you can use all at one time at JoAnns. The costumes were a true hit!

My daughter’s Halloween costume was inspired by one of the theme days during her school’s Spirit Week! The kids were supposed to create an outfit from recycled materials and, as you can see, we got a little carried away! Her entire costume is made of plastic grocery bags (and you know how many of those I had lying around from going out and grabbing all the great deals you post!) We cut them into strips and braided them for the waist and the neck line and then used a hot glue gun to attach them to the bodice and skirt. The hair piece was an afterthought that successfully used up our scraps.
